A Magical Family Journey to Lapland UK
Yesterday, we embarked on what will surely be one of our most cherished family adventures—a trip to the enchanting Lapland UK. From the moment we set off, it felt like the beginning of a Christmas fairy tale, and while there were a few hiccups along the way, the magic of the day more than made up for it.
We began our journey yesterday afternoon, sneaking the kids out of school early to dodge the infamous M4 traffic. Leaving at 1 pm proved to be a wise decision, as the roads were surprisingly clear for this time of year. The three-hour drive to our overnight hotel flew by with minimal complaints, thanks to a well-stocked stash of snacks and the kids' trusty tablets. When we arrived, the hotel proved to be basic but clean and spacious—perfect for a quick family stopover.
Unpacking was a flurry of excitement as the kids claimed their sleeping spots and tested who had the biggest bed. After settling in, we played festive games, which quickly filled the room with laughter. Dinner followed, where Mrs. W's forward-thinking reservation spared us from the busy restaurant queues. The meal, while far from gourmet, was satisfying enough to fuel us for the next day. However, the excitement of what lay ahead (and perhaps a sugary soft drink or two) meant the kids were far too giddy to fall asleep. When they finally drifted off, it wasn’t long before we all joined them, albeit after a restless night.
Dawn broke with a wave of renewed energy, and despite the lack of sleep, we were raring to go. The short 15-minute drive to Lapland UK felt like the final stretch of a pilgrimage to the North Pole. As we approached, the sight before us was nothing short of magical—a snow-dusted fairy-tale forest brought to life. From the moment we arrived, every detail was perfectly orchestrated to immerse us in Christmas magic.
Our adventure began with a warm welcome from the elves, who whisked us through an interactive check-in process that included "Elf Passport Control" and a whimsical introduction to the world of Lapland. The storytelling in the enchanted forest captured the kids' imaginations as we prepared for our first stop: the elf workshop. Here, the kids got hands-on crafting their own toys, a unique touch that made them feel like part of Santa’s team.
Next came Mrs. Claus’s kitchen, where the festive charm was turned up a notch. We decorated gingerbread men under her watchful (and jolly) eye, creating a sugary mess that only added to the fun. The adventure continued into the Elf Village, a bustling hub of activity where we ice-skated, sipped rich hot chocolate, and explored the elf post office. Checking our letters to Santa was a highlight, followed closely by a visit to the sweetshop for magical treats. The Christmas tree maze added a touch of wonder as we wandered through, soaking in the sights, sounds, and smells of the season.
The pièce de résistance was, of course, our one-on-one meeting with Santa himself. The kids’ eyes sparkled with awe as he greeted them by name and spoke as if he’d been watching them all year. From their hobbies and favourite toys to personal milestones, his knowledge was uncanny. For a moment, even I found myself questioning reality. Santa’s warmth and the personal attention he gave made this a truly unforgettable experience. With a parting gift, a quick family photo, and hugs all around, our time in Lapland came to a magical close.
The memories we made today are the kind that will last a lifetime. Watching the joy on the kids’ faces reminded us of the magic of Christmas and the importance of creating these moments as a family. Lapland UK delivered an experience that exceeded every expectation, and I couldn’t recommend it more for families seeking a little extra holiday magic.
