Introducing the new Steem Gaming Community logo & some future plans

in #steemgc7 years ago

The Steemit Gaming Community (SteemGC or SGC) was founded by @strawhat 11 days ago.

The original post is here - https://steemit.com/gaming/@strawhat/announcing-steemgamingcommunity-a-group-for-gamers-on-steam

So far 41 Steemians have joined the steam group! The group is growing and the gamers here on Steemit now have a place to have fun and play various games with fellow Steemians.

You can join the steam group here - http://steamcommunity.com/groups/steemgamingcommunity/

The Logo

This is the 1920x1080 image which can be used for stream, video and post thumbnails and is free to use by anyone. It will represent our group and you can find a foxy Steemian gamer just by looking at his logo!

This is some amateur work by me and my sister, but hopefully it serves it's purpose until a better logo is made!

The small icons for Steam profiles and other ones will be ready in a day or two as well.

Future plans for the Steem Gaming Community

The Steem Gaming Community is not only meant for casual gameplay with your buddies. Sure, casual is fun, but there needs to be some extravaganza! This is where competitive gaming comes to play.

  • Tournaments

The Steemit Gaming Community will be hosting regular competitive tournaments (not sure how regular yet, may be daily ones, weekly ones, even monthly ones) in various games for STEEM or SBD prizes. Right now the most popular game choices come to mind - CS:GO, League of Legends, Dota 2 etc.
Steemians will be able to form teams with each other, practice and compete against fellow gamers for a shot at the title. There will be ladders like 1v1 matches. Players could even face each other by putting STEEM or SBD on the line!
  • Website for stats tracking

One of the suggestions were to create a website in order to track the Steem Gaming Community team's and player's gameplay stats.

This would be most beneficial, as gamers could track their own progress and compete for something like the top player award (for example, a team which has the most wins at the end of the month) for a certain prize.

  • Streams & videos

Enjoy watching CS:GO majors? The Steem Gaming Community tournaments could also be streamed and include commentary! I would certainly enjoy watching something like that live on DLive.

I will also be making video compilations and montages about the Steemit Gaming Community. Speaking of videos, I will start working on a trailer about the group and future plans soon as well, which I expect to attract more gamers with!

The even more distant future plans

This would take lots of time and effort, but I would love to see pro gaming teams forming out of the Steemit community. It might be very unlikely, but given enough time I think it's possible to form highly skilled teams for games like CS:GO or League of Legends. This would lead to competing under the flag of Steem in tournaments worldwide and making Steem popular in the gaming and E-Sports communities! Steem itself would be a great sponsorship model.

As of right now, we are working on getting private CS:GO servers ready for the sole purpose of playing with fellow gamers in the group! As the community grows, more ideas will come to realization and I can only expect it to snowball from there.

Join the Steem Gaming Community now and ready yourself for some fun and action!

If you have any questions, ask below or add me on Steam - http://steamcommunity.com/id/cheakyy/

Also, make sure to follow @steemgc , as it will be the main community account!

Great work!
Is there already ongoing work in terms of the SGC website?

Not yet, but we will let you know!

Is it going to be a WP based website?

Please not :D

Nice logo! Reminds me on absolute beginners ;)

This sounds great. Any plans to form guild etc in the larger MMOs such as WOW or EVE etc?

As the community grows, it should not be a problem.

It would be really cool to have a Steemit guild on WoW at least ;) But I bet no one here plays on the same server..

I haven’t played wow in years but recently got back into Eve online and enjoying myself!

1000% supporting the growth of the Steem gaming community!
Just requested to join the group ... though, it is important the consider the following:

GAMES / GROUPS
Rather than just saying a SGC, it might be important to, at the right time, define what will be the main games. Once that is done, each game should have a curator/manager ... this is important at the early stages to form a solid and active community.
Without it, we may have a situation where 2 or 3 games will dominate the group, thus scaring away potential new members.

GAMER vs GAME PLAYER
I always divide games into two groups: A Real Gamer & A Game Player

  • RGs can have fun with any game any time. May have the game of the week, the game of the month, but is never loyal to one particular game.
  • GPs play just one game, all the time, every time. For example: a gamer who plays LoL only is a typical GP.

BETTER FOCUS
Thus, it is important to decide which type of gamer SGC wants to attract: RGs or GPs . If the focus is GPs, it is imperative to create game groups within the community. If the focus is RG, groups could be created not by games but by game types i.e. MMO, Retro, SPORTS, etc

GLOBAL, NOT LOCAL
When we think about communities, we have to think always globally. That's the best way to have a massive community. In this case, the only challenge is the language one. A default language could be established (English being the obvious choice).
Global means 247365, which means nonstop, when one is sleeping the other is awake. Thus, community/group leaders should be divided into regions, so events and tournaments will have a global reach thus attracting as many gamers as possible

ONE MAN SHOW - DOUBT
Is SGC a one-man-show? If so, would you consider volunteers to help plan, expand, and curate the community?

Hello @gamerandgamer,

Thanks for such a thorough comment!

Currently the thought process is directed towards, as you call them, game players. As you know, games like CS:GO, LoL etc. are very popular these days. A significant involvement in the e-sports scene is crucial, as it is currently a flame which will not extinguish soon and advantage should be taken. Though it is not as easy as it sounds - presumably there are more 'real gamers' than 'game players' on the Steemit platform and it would require additional marketing to reach the ears of gamers who have not yet even heard of Steem.

Since games like CS:GO are currently so popular, a bigger portion of players have incentive to join the community, especially if there are tournaments and prizes.

This does not mean that 'real gamers' should be shunned away from the community, because as the community grows, it is likely that there will be a huge variety of different games which will be played casually.

There's still a lot of consideration needed to be done, but for now our eyes are set on making a functional website and expanding.

As for the other things you've mentioned, the default language will, of course, be English. Dividing into regions will also take time - the Steem Gaming Community is making it's first baby steps.

The inner organization of SGC will, of course, be handled by SGC itself. Though everyone is welcome to play a role in helping the project expand.

That's a great logo! I'm surprised that the gaming community has not been very big here on Steemit until now, since gamers seem to love getting money to talk about games and stream them, but I think this will be a lot more popular soon enough! It's a great project that I'm looking forward to seeing how it unfolds ;)

Thank you for the support! :)

Thanks. Great stuff. I joined up. Planning on bringing more of my Warframe content.

awesome, would love to play some lol with my fellow steemians, especially if there are some organized ranked 5s or tournaments.

logo cool, similar character in anime Dragon ball

Amazing content. I am quite new to Steemit myself, never knew even by commenting can earn myself steemit dollars
