It's Time To Make a Move! Witnesses, dApp Developers, Communities, Steem Front-end Providers: Unite for STEEM Liberation!

in #steemhostiletakeover5 years ago (edited)

We have had a coup, a hostile takeover, an unwelcome invasion by Tron, or whatever you want to call it. The Steem blockchain is being held hostage by a minority put in place by a flawed witness voting system which allowed exchanges to (unethically - ignorance is no excuse) power up investor funds and vote for 20 incompetent "sock puppet" (can you say "Sock Puppet", followbtcnews? ;-} ) nodes, which are putting the blockchain at risk through maladministration of their nodes.

With the community taking a stand, and supporting our elected witnesses to regain some control, we are now being held by another minority with a large stake of SP, who have the swing-vote to make or break the deadlock, making absurd or unrealistic demands, which have been argued and rejected countless times in the past, and no majority of witnesses with the best interest of Steem in mind would vote in favour of.

It's time to draw a line in the sand and Liberate our Steem, one way or the other, and for that to happen we need UNITY! We all need to stand up as one, and get the Steem blockchain back to community-based governance. That, or we ALL move on!

BEHOLD!!! STEEMFU!!

STEEMFU is STEEM Fully United (yeah, the name needs work), the liberated version of STEEM through the united movement of all developers, witnesses, website front-ends to a new fork of the original STEEM chain, with a new set of clearly defined, and fair governance rules. A stronger, more robust version of the old vulnerable witness voting system is in place, where a super-majority is formed through a distributed community trust, rather than stake size and collusion of a few.

The perpetrators of the coup, and their supporters either by direct, or by proxy means, are left behind on Steem, and STEEMFU becomes the new mainstream chain for all that has gone before, minus any account which has actively been supporting the coup and current deadlock. Exchanges can choose to either come with the community onto STEEMFU, or stay with the minority on old Steem, with no dApps, and a fraction of the active user base.

Users moving to the new STEEMFU will need to withdraw their STEEM off the exchanges and into their wallets before STEEMFU is launched, and commit to burning their stake in the original STEEM chain, and have a zero balance of SP, STEEM and SBD by a certain deadline. Accounts with non-zero Steem chain balances after the deadline date will be unable to transact on STEEMFU until zero balance is achieved through sending "at-fork balances"to null. It's one way or the other... no free tokens. I'm pretty sure this algorithm can be coded somewhere by the technically-minded community elected witnesses we have.

Tron and co. will have their STEEM, but that is about all.

This is all VERY doable, if we stand united, especially the major players, and work together for the greater good of the community. The majority have spoken by activation of their witness votes, regardless of their SP balance. The numbers are plain to see, the invaders are nowhere in sight:

Otherwise, we all just go with the flow and see which side wins out in the end, hope for the best, and leave if the result is not what you hoped for by you doing nothing.

Have a great day!

I'm confused. You think people are just going to burn their STEEM for nothing?

I wouldn't say it's for nothing. The value of Steem is the community. The whole community leaves to another, they talenthat value with them, and ebentually Steem becomes nothing. Burning Steem would accelerate the transfer of value.

Just a theory... but I've seen nothing constructive put forward by a united team of witnesses yet to break the deadlocl we're in now. The longer they wait, the less power they will have to work with against the hostiles.

So theoretically I'd have the same number of tokens there?

Yes, your account will be a carbon copy of your current Steem account, with all tokens intact, just renamed to whatever.. "STEEMFU", but to continue using your new tokens on the new, forked chain, the old STEEM tokens need to be burned to null, as a transfer of value rather than a double up of tokens. Basically we'd be burning our old account to acquire a "new" one where we left off on Steem.

commit to burning their stake in the original STEEM chain, and have a zero balance of SP, STEEM and SBD by a certain deadline.

Why should I do that? That is a stupid authoritarian demand. No Bitcoin or Etherium fork demanded something that stupid.

I stopped reading at that point because your envision blockchain is just as authoritarian as @justinsunsteemit blockchains.

It's a straight out token swap to acticate you new chain funds. Extreme? Yes. Possible? Yes. Likely to work? Probably not. But it has openned up a fair amount of debate.

Calling the entire new chain authoritarian and stupid based on that single requirement is stupid in itself.

You want to force your will onto other people instead of giving people the right and liberty to chose for themselves — as every other blockchain spilt I know of did.

And thinking of it a little more: It's not even necessary. If @justinsunsteemit gets control over the chain he most likely make a token swap for TRON. The old STEEM token is likely to be gone anyway.

And speaking gone: What stops me from selling my STEEM or transferring it into newly created account before the deadline? You said it yourself:

Likely to work? Probably not.

BTW: If you look at my other comments I made in recent time: I'm in favour of a blockchain split. It's probably the only way forwards. It's just your “burn your steem” demand I oppose.

To too much a libertarian to accept such demands.
