- This trail begins at Ribeiro Frio and is destined for the fabulous Balcões Viewpoint, after a short but grandiose journey through the typical greenery of the Madeira forest. From this viewpoint it's possible to contemplate the various peaks of Madeira Island, especially the two highest peaks of the Island: Pico Ruivo (1861m) and Pico do Areeiro (1817m). Pico do Gato, Pico das Torres and the well-known Penha d´Águia rock are also part of this breathtaking scenery.
This place is also ideal for bird watching, as there is a wide variety that sympathetically greets visitors from this viewpoint. Among these small and friendly creatures stand out the Bisbis, the Chaffinch, the Laundress, the Blackbird, the Papinho, the Manta and the rare Trocaz Pigeon.
The return is made the same way but be disappointed if you think you have seen all there was to see. A particularity of the "levadas" of Madeira is that, no matter how often you visit, there are always new discoveries, experiences and sensations that will make this activity unique.
