Hunter's comment

I'm fascinated by the range of robots that are currently available for educational and STEM learning. And this Centipede Robot is no exception.

It was developed from the work done on the i-Centipod at Osaka University's Graduate School of Engineering. link

And has been made into an easy to assemble kit by the popular model making company TAMIYA.

It has autonomous control and due to the design of the legs mimicking a real centipede it can travel over a variety of surfaces.

See this video for more information

The model use a central gearbox with internal motor, and the body segments are connected by universal joints.

Steering is influenced by changing the position of the steering bar on the head.

And yes you can buy it.

PROS:

  • STEM Related
  • Unique Design
  • All Terrain Robot

CONS:

  • Limited Use
  • Heavy Drain on Battery

Great to see that TAMIYA is entering STEM. Would love to see them do more and even enter the biomimicry niche.

A brand like TAMIYA could make entry in that niche so much more accessible.

Great Hunt!

Creepy looking toy! I can imaging having a blast playing with this as a kid for sure but honestly I have to say you can really compare this with the i-Centipod created by Prof. Osuka & Co. Looking at it this is just another cheap toy (not saying it is not cool and stuff but definitely a cheap one).

Keep on the good work!

This will scare anyone to dfeath at night but it is a kind of RObot that I won't love having around. I am not tech inclined that much, but my little cousin wioll enjoy tinkering with this.

The exclusivity that technology has based on age is being diffused by products like this, the more younger generation can now learn fast and Involve themselves early.

Dude Seriously?
This is the link to the manufacturer's official product website. (3-1)
The other links are there to provide a reference to where the idea came from and a place to actually buy this as the manufacturer doesn't appear to have a shop on their site.
It took me a long time to write this one up, so please reconsider re-listing it.

I can remove the other links if this is your problem, but feel I followed the SteemHunt Guidelines in this case.

Great..!

This type of robot is super cool; its different design would be striking for anyone and even more so when this feature provides adaptation to various types of terrain. Great hypothesis is behind this great product; that "life reacts to its environment instead of relying on an innate intelligence".

Honestly, the robot is a bit disgusting and it looks like a worm. But it takes advantages of the characteristics of worms to make it adapts to every terrain which is very innovative. I hope this robot will have more applications in the future.

Hi, @moneyhacks, Impressive Hunt
Here is my opinion about your product.

Pros:

  • It's educational toy and surely helps users to understand how centipede move and walk.
  • It can be easily assembled with screwing and fitting.
  • It has a single motor powers for all of the individual moving segments.
  • Users also remodel it with ease.
  • It has a Built-in motor and battery in the gear box in the center.
  • Affordable price.

Cons:

  • There is nothing negative to say about this product, simply cool and innovative toy robot.

hahaha , at first look it scared me :P but then after opening the post it looks like its an interesting robot, You did great man, thanks for your hunt.

It makes a lot of noise. Battery life is low. It can not be used as a toy. Children are afraid of this. He can only go on rough roads.

Whats the best way to learn if not the fun way..! :-)
pretty sure this is a programming bot
