What is this madness, Help!?
My account has been acting really weird when it comes to upvoting. I'll tell you more in a second, but first, my question. How can I set my upvote to half power? Is that even an option? Okay, I have seen my upvote actually decrease a few balances. How the hell is that fair? Maybe I should change my name to "thecooler"! Then, I've also upvoted when I had only a penny of voting power, but somehow it gave over three dollars to @papapepper. It's all over the place. I'm not going to upvote at all today, so I can hopefully let my steem build. Maybe I should take a longer break. Well, anyone else experience any bizarro stuff like this? Please help or add your confusion in the comments.
(Special thanks to @walkingkeys for introducing me to giphy.com, and teaching me how to post a gif!)
Yes, it's actually happened to me! It'll go from 1 cent to $2? If you find out why please tag me :)
@timbot606 and @bleedpoet both say it could be a result of it adding multiple votes at once, on a popular post.
Oh ok! Makes sense! Geez I thought I was powerful at times lol
Thank you :)
Me toooooo! Hahaha!
Have you checked your voting power? As that decreases so will the amount your vote is worth.
Several times. It was worth a penny when it gave @pappapepper over 3 dollars. I mean, good for him, but weird right?
That's a hard one to gauge it by, because he could get several votes at once, which would change the amount that it raises. It will fluctuate though, so I wouldn't worry too much. If you want to see wht you vote is worth you can try steemnow.com that will let ya know.
That's interesting about maybe it being multiple votes at once, very possible! He's a very popular blogger. I do use steenow, thank you.
You're welcome. Good luck!
Great value given with the steemnow.com I will have to take a look myself. I didn't know. Thanks @timbot606_
No problem! Happy to help.
Sometimes it kicks three four or five votes together simultaneously, I know my vote is three or four cents max, but it gets kicked in with the other votes, you'll notice both the number of votes and money growing. No worries,it's typical.
Good to know.
Ordinary posts give out quickly, I use mine up too fast I'll admit. I think those ones that "boost" (and I've seen that happen with me) is when you happen to hit a trending post.
I'd be lying if I said I understood it completely. I've been thinking of not doing as much upvoting to let my voter battery "recharge" but hey, I like doing voting and comments! Is that a crime? :)
I know!! It's so hard not to upvote. I feel guilty, like I like your post but I'm being stingy about it, when I'm really just outta steem.
How do you know when you're out of steem?
Go to steemnow.com and enter your name on the left sorta middle of the form
I'm glad this is a topic because I did notice the value of my up vote would be high on the first one and low on all others. I experienced a jump in a trending post yesterday too. Now that I know its the norm I can chill out.

Thank you. I hadn't seen that tool yet.
I am actually totally confused about so much here, despite reading tons of articles and post on how to get around. I'm winging it now. ha.
Yeah, I figure I'll probably never see a cent in actuality, but as long as I am having fun, it's cool. It's interesting learning some new things.
I am so not here for the monies but it IS a totally cool aspect to this -- If I do see monies I'm just gonna play more with Cryptos, like Bitcoin and the such. I would like to learn how to navigate better and become proficient as it would be great to generate some crypto flow for talking about stuff I love and finding new people that dig the same things.... like you.
Have checked out steemnow.com or steemvp.com? They're cool tools.
I have checked out steemvp.com and love it -- I'll get on over to the other one straight away. Thankies.

I noticed you mentioned that you were having some issues #upvoting, I was having similar issues. Maybe I was out of steem but i'm not really sure. Fumbling around still. Thanks for this blog @renodakota...you are not alone my friend.
Not to boss you around, because you should do what you want, however, you might consider not upvoting your own comments (it's different with posts). I guess some around here say it looks bad, and I know it also eats your steem up. Just friendly advice, I won't judge it! I'm currently trying really hard to take a break from upvoting to let my steem build back up.
Did you ever figure it out? I just upvoted and it changed the post by 17 bucks.... yesterday too. Totally confused as the the upvote count only changed by 1 (me).
That's crazy! I don't know for sure, but timbot and bleedpoet say it could be a result of multiple votes going through at once. That kind of makes sense, but not if the number of voters is only going up by one. ??
I agree, I thought it was just pilling them up until my two experiences which negated that theory... oh well. lol
Another steemit mystery!
ahahahhaa, there are so many.
Right after hf, my upvotes were worth 15 cents. Now i am lucky if they are 3. I don't know if I have a slider, or what would be its optimal position. I abstained from liking anything for a week, and it didn't reset. I already din't really understand this thing, but now, I have just returned to liking everything I like, regardless of how much I devalue my vote. Feels authentic for me. I appreciate any other info explaining what the heck I am doing wrong, though! Hehe cheers, thanks for posing the question
Well, we're not the only ones confused!
