Got flagged twice for a post...30 reputation points are now gone...:( - Is it fair?!?!?!

in #steemit7 years ago

About a week ago I made a post about Vlad Tepes, The Dracula that we all know in Romania, and I got 11 upvotes, 2 flags(one from @steemcleaners and the other from @blacklist-a)and 2 comments. In one of the comments I am accused of plagiarism by a steemcleaner. For the second flag the author of the flag didn't even bother to leave a comment on why he flagged me. I have made the mistake to just translate some paragraphs from a Romanian history web site and put them in my post without linking the source(in Romanian). A couple of these paragraphs were translated also by another fellow steemian three months ago and here is where one of my flags comes from. My accusations were not for not giving the source for my paragraphs...were for copying content from another user which I haven't made. I gave a reply to the accusing comment in which I explained everything, but no answer till date...
The blacklist-a didn't even bother to give me a comment explaining why he flagged me.

Do I deserve the flag?

Maybe for translating the paragraphs from the Romanian web site without linking the source...but for plagiarism from another steemit user I don't think so.

Is it too much...30 points?

Absolutely YEAH.

First of all, they didn't even bother to ask me first if I took these paragraphs from another user...and just flagged and took 30 reputation points away in seconds.
Secondly if you have that much steem power your upvote and flag also will weigh a lot....and for me that is A LOT.
For one mistake that I assume myself, and one false accusation, I get to loose almost everything that I gained in a month...
I hope that this post will be seen by some admins from steemit...or maybe the ones that took my reputation away. I made a mistake by simply translating these paragraphs without linking the source, but I never, ever copied anything from another steemit user.

Just wanted to explain to my followers why my reputation score is just 11...and I am still waiting for a reply from @steemcleaners.

I hope in the future the admins will find a way of giving flags based on facts and also based on the steem power that the accused user also has. I don't consider fair to be flagged with so much steem power when you have just one month on steemit and get ruined...even if the accusations were.
Flags should have the same power as the one that is receiving them. Having alot of steem power and flagging a small fish like me doesn't seem fair.
In my opinion the platform still has a lot of work to be made on it. I hope the problems will be solved and steemit will become the largest blogging and social media platform.
It has a lot of potential.

The Steemit version of the Google Slap. Feel sorry for you. Has steemcleaners warned you in the past?

I don't remember to have warnings from them. I don't consider fair to flag without warning the author. There should be a complaints section to solve these kind of situations. And the power that they have to flag is huge...for me. I am very disappointed...

You should be hearing from them soon. There is a possibility that the issue can be fixed amicably. Hang in there...

Plagiarism is a grey area on Steemit we all have to learn our knowledge from somewhere to begin with. 'When a baby is born it knows nothing' I would consider it cheating if you had copied another users post but getting information through study of other independent web sites if you ask me I think it's harsh.
If I teach somebody something it's knowledge that I had to learn before I could possibly teach it so I don't find it logical that I own that knowledge my student owns that knowledge or the person who taught me owns that knowledge.
I can own a certificate to say that I am competent to teach certain things but I cant own a certificate to say the knowledge is exclusively mine.

I agree. If it was a flag for translating something without a source link...no problem...my bad. It's flagged by two for plagiarism from another steemit user which I haven't done. I gave in my comment on that post the source where I found the info. What the other user has done is none of my business, but I haven't been stealing anything from any user. Now it's up to the admins. I've learned my lesson...
