I also wonder why an outsider that has no plans on using the Steemit platform would want to buy an inflationary currency. Either they are a speculator or they feel Steemit is so great that people who use it will want to keep buying Steem so they can be super voters/content producers. My bet is there is a lot of speculation going on right now (hey it is good for Bitcoin either way so I am not complaining!).
