I Just Got Approval From Two of My High School Teachers to Work on Steemit During Class Time.

I signed up for Steemit last year, but the potential of it all hadn’t dawned on me and I wasn’t really taking it seriously. But recently I began to realise that Steemit could really change my future, both financially and through the things I learn here, if I’m willing to invest the time.

Finally seeing the value of Steemit, and considering the flexibilty of the school I’m in, I asked some of my teachers if I could post on Steemit during classtime.

So what did I actually get permission to do?

In some of my previous posts I’ve mentioned the high school that I’m currently enrolled in. It’s a school that basically lets me take control of my own learning, so I talked to both my Media and Entrepreneurship teachers (yes, I have an entrepreneurship class). I figured there was no point talking to my Self Defence teacher about it :)

Considering the financial potential, my Entrepreneurship teacher said that it would be a great project for his class. Because of the opportunity to improve my media skills, I was also able to convince my Media teacher to let me use Steemit as a project. All up that would be 7 and a half hours per week I can work on Steemit at school.

Now, I wasn’t sure if I was going to continue with my media class next semester because I felt like I wasn’t getting what I wanted out of the class. But since it could mean more Steemit time, I just might stick around in that class for a while.

Here are a few reasons I’m pumped about being able to post on Steemit during school time:

1. I get to spend my school days connecting with and learning from heaps of awesome people.

I’m really happy to know about Steemit while it’s still in its early stages, and that I’m able to learn from the community here on Steemit. Some very unique people have been attracted to Steemit early on, such as @papa-pepper who seems to be using different forms of media really well, which is something I can learn from.

I’ve also been able to meet people like fellow musician @chrisgoans. I can’t wait to continue to meet more people in the Steemit community.

It’s also an excellent opportunity to learn and practice my writing, communication, and media skills (if I can get more comfortable behind a camera).

2. Even during school, I can start building toward my financial future and maybe even make Steemit my job.

I’m only 14 years old, but I’ve recently been wanting money for certain things I want to do, whether it’s going to some sort of event or just seeing a movie with friends. I’ve been saying things like, “I can’t wait until I’m old enough to get a job next year.”

Imagine if in about a year I could be making enough money from each post so that I didn’t have to get a job. I could potentially even be making more than my friends at their jobs. Even if I don’t, Steemit is a great investment of my time, which we could see proof of in the next few years.

Here’s how I see it. Etheruem is now up to around $350, and it’s been around a year and nine months since it started (ten months in July I’m pretty sure). What if in five to seven years I had 7000 STEEM in my account, which is a very realistic goal. If STEEM then went up to $300 (which is less than what Ethereum is at in under two years), then that’s $2.1 million.

My dad has been talking to me about passive income. STEEM at $300 would pretty much sort that out and I could focus on my music and not worry about having to make money from it.

Even if none of that happens, over the next few years, I would much rather make a little money doing what I love than trading my time for money at a fast food restaurant.

3. I get to model Steemit success to my friends at school.

One thing that I’ve seen so far on Steemit is how important it is to spread the word to our friends. The more it grows, the better it is for all of us.

In other words, I hope all the other kids at school will see me on Steemit and get a big dose of FOMO.

Working on this at school is the perfect opportunity to show Steemit to my friends and other students at school or in my class. Especially once I get more of a following, other students are going to want in on this new way of blogging.

What’s not to love? Assuming people want to listen to you, you’re getting paid with the currency of the future for writing about whatever you want.

Where to from here...

I’d like to post as often as possible, but also have good quality posts. Not four or five crappy posts a day, or one great one every four or five days. Being able to write on Steemit at school would help with this because I could spend a lot more time on it.

I realise that it’s going to take time and persistence to get to where I want to be, but once I get there the view is gonna be great.

You will probably make more money during class than they will teaching. LOL

Haha hopefully if all goes well I will. Probably wouldn't be that hard.

haha my first thought! Best of luck!

Sad but true. Teach the Teachers how to Steemit!

There is that interesting potential.

Yeah I agree and cheers :)

That's so cool that your school's letting you use the platform while in school - very progressive of them! It looks like you're off to a great start, keep up the great work! :)

Hi @crypticus welcome to Steemit. I am a teacher and I asked all my creative writing students to sign up for steemit. They write under the gedwriting tag, and there are specific groups that follow these kids. You are welcome to use the tag. I think it is wonderful that you have a teacher like that. My students post all their essays and projects on Steemit and it is amazing to see what some of them come up with. You will never look back. Good luck with your journey here on Steemit, and if you struggle, please ask and I will gladly help. How amazing is it that you can create a passive income by sitting on your butt and not run around like crazy in a restaurant...lol...

Haha yeah the passive income opportunity is great. I'm really grateful to know about Steemit so early on! Thanks for that, and yeah I've been planning for a while to put my schoolwork on Steemit I'm just waiting until I have an essay or story, etc. to post. I think that's awesome what you're doing with your students too. Great to see more and more young people joining Steemit. I'll check out your blog.

Awesome man, keep up the good work!

the school system is old, need to be changed. Allowing steemit is a good start

Definitely! I agree 100%. That's probably one of the biggest things our school pushes, which is changing the traditional way of education. Completely outdated.

@crypticus, when I first found steemit, I thought, wow, what if teenagers started posting here and earned their own pocket money or built up their college fund or savings for a house or vacations - or whatever!!
You are a smart kid for having realized the potential and you are an entrepreneur at heart. I think you will do really really well here!

Thanks! Hopefully I can make the most of Steemit and it's potential.

This is awesome! ... not to quote

That is awesome. ~ @scaredycatguide

Who had the same thought as me and I'm sure a few others. Great to hear and look forward to your endeavors with steem(it)!
