History :
Algerian Independence Day is the celebration of the anniversary of the independence of Algeria after the French colonialism, which lasted more than thirteen decades, which corresponds to July 5, 1962.

  • Events of Independence:
    The leaders of the national movement were attending to celebrate the victory of the Allies on the Nazis after the end of the Second World War, by organizing demonstrations to be a means of pressure on the French occupation by showing the strength of the national movement and the awareness of the Algerian people demands, and the demonstrations spread all the Algerian country on the first May 1945, and called the Algerians to release Masali Haj and the independence of Algeria and denounced the persecution and raised the national flag, which was produced specifically for this occasion in the sewing shop of a merchant named Bashir Amron. The demonstrators said they had discovered a "revolution project" in Bejaia, especially when two policemen were killed in Algiers, and arrests, beatings and injuries to many Algerians began. When the official celebration was announced on 7 May, the Maronites began organizing the festival of celebrations, and the Algerians organized their own festival and called for freedom and independence after they received permission from the French administration to participate in the victory of the Allies
    The repression against the peaceful demonstrations organized by the Algerians was the perpetration of the massacres of May 8, 1945, in a manner of repression and mass killing, in which the land, air and sea forces were used, and destroyed the entire villages, Madashar and Dwyer. These massacres resulted in the killing of more than 45,000 Algerians, the first of them Bouzid Shaal, 22, whose villages and property were destroyed. Foreign statistics have reached a staggering estimate of between 50,000 and 70,000 unarmed civilians, a terrible massacre by the French, who often boast of urbanization, freedom and humanity.
  • Celebrations and Protocols:
    Algeria holds annual national celebrations at the level of the entire Algerian territory in commemoration of this great anniversary accompanied by some official protocols such as raising the Algerian flag at zero hour throughout the Republic, broadcasting television programs and radio compatible with the occasion of honoring national figures.
