LEARN FROM MY STEEMIT MISTAKES

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

My name is Abiodun Olorunleke Peter, if you find the first two names difficult to pronounce, just call me Peter. I joined Steemit on the 15/8/2016, actually I don’t know much when I join the campaign of do what you do for free and fun on Facebook and Twitter here at Steemit and get paid, I don’t know the whole story then or the purpose, but I was excited about getting paid for sharing, I mean “Sharing!”. Without much to do I started posting content, I mean content in form of sharing, since sharer don’t necessary means creator or author, as long as you are not violating terms and conditions of content that you choose to share. It was not long when I started seeing plagiarism comment on my post by a guy called @siren, then I begin to wonder, what is plagiarism has to do with sharing, this had bad effect on my reputation as I travel down the elevator of reputation from where I am to @cyborg (17) if not less, as a result of many people taking back their upvote.

Lesson learnt: Be Authentic and Original.

My first post on Steemit is full of # tag that can never be found in the pool of post on Steemit, because I wasn’t paying attention, so, while posting I was using the wrong tag. Am a big fan of Facebook, since # tag is the twin sister of Twitter and I hardly use my Twitter account there was no room for me to learn how to properly # tag until when my reputation started its downward journey to the bottom of Steemit.

Lesson learnt: To survive Here on Steemit, learn to Use # Tag.

Facebook is a place where you can like, hate or keep to yourself concerning someone post which is fine, no string attach. Never like that on Steemit, when I heard about getting paid for upvote which is similar to Facebook like, I was just casting vote like a broadcaster on Aljazeera television network casting news, not knowing about the terms and conditions.  For every earlier upvote on a post that later goes viral, you get your own share. As a beginner am not rebuking you to upvote any content you like, but stop up voting content that has gather 200 upvotes or above because you want to get paid, know that your vote didn’t have much effect in the first place.

Lesson learnt: Don’t let Payout Justify your Upvote.

After all my up’s and down on Steemit, I began asking myself questions, question like,

“Are we here to compete or share and interact “

“OR, this is another System of rat race”

I spent last week reading a lot of post on Steemit, some are very good while some are not that bad, some well written, some lack construction but post by popular personnel that we all know, despite the fact that some were just introductory post, it earned more than someone with over 200 unique post, then this cross my mind, what will happen if popular celebrities like Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Rihanna etc. start using Steemit, Hmm , I promise you that with a single trashy post they will get thousands of upvote which means good content will no longer matter.

This platform is great, but I think there is a lot of things that we need to readdressing to stop all this useless competition and give room for its primary purpose “sharing”. Thanks for reading.

Great post, we all make mistakes when we first join. I made the mistake of posting content just to post content and had no real thought on trying to connect with my readers and share interesting things . I did not use my tags or when I did, they were not the right ones to use. The good things is that your learning and sharing those mistakes so that newer users can learn from you.

We always wish a new start, at least we learn something.

Thanks for sharing. Also for hanging in there.

I will have to take these into account when I start posting.

i wish i was in your shoe when i start posting.

I believe in second chances. Good luck.
