How To Improve The Steemit We All Love

in #steemit7 years ago

What's up fellow Steemitizens? Hope you are all having a great 4th of July! I'm just sitting here scheming up ideas on how the Steemit platform could be improved to solve some pain points.

The following suggestions may or may not already be planned by the dev team(s), I'm not sure. See my list of problems and possible solutions below:

Steemit Improvement Ideas

Problem A

  • Either I'm missing it, or it seems rather difficult to find when another Steemit user has mentioned you in either their post, comment, or reply.

Solution

  • Implement a "Mentions" category along with the others. This would link directly to the blog / comment / reply where your @_____ tag has been used.

Problem B

  • Likely already been mentioned before, but there is no internal chat system in Steemit. Other than external apps (Discord, Teamspeak, etc.), you cannot directly interact with other Steemers unless you comment or reply to them.

Solution

  • Implement internal Steemit chat for mobile and desktop, possibly similar to Fakebook's Messenger app. Could either be integrated or its own standalone app.

Problem C

  • Users cannot directly invest with USD --> Steem. Convoluted process to buy Bitcoin or other mainstay cryptocurrency, then transfer to another brokerage to buy Steem, etc.

Solution

  • This is likely a limitation on crytocurrencies in general at the moment and no fault of Steem/Steemit itself. Hopefully these limitations will be removed when cryptocurrencies are more widely adopted in the general public.

Me trying to figure out how to buy Steem.

Final Thoughts

Yes, Steemit is definitely still in Beta stage and this post is NOT meant to bash the platform.

I have genuinely enjoyed my time here since joining on June 15th of this year. I've made some great friends, produced several blog posts, tons of comments, and thoroughly enjoyed reading great content from others.

That being said, I think we would all agree that there is always room for improvement, be it an individual, a business, an app, etc. I believe the above mentioned suggestions for solving pain points on Steemit would definitely improve the platform, support future growth and encourage more Steemit user interactions in the current community.

Thank you for reading!

What is the number one improvement you would make to Steemit?

Your concerns are like mine, awesome post! So glad you were able to read my mind and articulate my thoughts so well. :) Bravo! Next post will have all the solutions, right?

Hah. I wish I was technically gifted enough to create the solutions myself!

I believe in you!

Internal chat and being able to invest USD would definitely be next level. Great Ideas.

Thanks! I think so too. Such a headache to have to buy BTC and convert!

Totally on the right track man! We do need these features and enhancements, and many, many more. I wish I could go shake those devs and business peeps up at steemit inc and make them understand how badly this needs to happen for our future.

@ats-david this guy gets it. What do you think about trying to create an "icebox" of every user story we can find, and somehow, maybe via your whaleship, my lord, ;) we could get this stuff to the right eyeballs. Thoughts?

Agreed... but also it needs to be easy to turn steem directly into USD without the whole bitcoin thing. It's very convoluted right now. I just want to sell and have it shoot over into my bank account... or my PayPal account. I think for steemit to really draw more people over from social networks it has to be easy for the GP (general public) to figure out. The chat's kind of annoying as it is, I've already lost track of my password for it. UGH...

Congratulations! This post has been upvoted from the communal account, @minnowsupport, by doggedfi from the Minnow Support Project. This is a great post, and a agree with it all!

Apparently you can put another persons post, as a link in your post if it helps further the topic; they then would get a notice... I've tried it recently and got a Thank you about it ... So it does Work... Then there's posting @username directly in your link... It will not notify, but it will show in a search...

Awesome post!my other concern also i did not get notification to other post or mybe im just the only one who countered that!!!hope to get more update with you!!!!
