The Problem with Steemit for New Users

I joined steemit not knowing much about crypto thinking that this could be a great blogging platform to make a little money.
I have quickly learned that there is a very common theme that is the most popular, and that is cryptocurrency. On top of that, you have to know exactly when to post your story, and how many times a week to post. There are tricks to getting exposure like paying a whale to up vote your article which may or may not work. But it is clear to see that there is a strong suit of politics at work. There are members who have been here the longest with the most invested who carry the most weight. You can follow other writers and comment on as many posts as you can and still be ignored. No votes for even genuine comments for articles I really enjoyed. It is very clear that you have to rub elbows with the higher up to make any money here, and if you rub the wrong way you may get shut down.... down voted to zero.... If you have a lot of friends on steemit then you have a good start, kinda like having a community within a community. I have a friend that puts out high quality content everyday that makes almost no money.. I mean pennies a week.. maybe he is posting too much.. maybe it's because he is not posting about crypto... maybe he is not friends with the right folks on steemit... it all seems a little tricky and political to me.... I'm still trying to figure it out... it would be nice if the membership platform were more like Facebook instead of this blogging deal... anyone care to comment? kick up some dirt and correct me, teach me something ? Thanks in advance!

I know what you mean I posted some stuff mostly about cryptocurrency and like highlights in the news with only making pennies like you said but you got to remember those pennies do add up and just keep posting every day. Your followers will grow if they like your content. I start out 2 months ago on steemit. In the last month I really just started using the platform posting daily and yes I get some change but it's all adding up. I know it can be frustrating at times just be positive and keep at it. Thank you for this post I know I'm not the only one that feels that way have a blessed day.

Thanks for speaking up... I read one article that said not to post more than 3 times a week? I also read another article that said to follow as many whales as you can.. "sounds fishy" lol~ anyway thanks & One Love!

That is a barrier for entry and that's why I occasionally interact with new Steemians and sometimes follow them so they build momentum.

So there is a barrier to break through? is it a time barrier, or is it measured in posts, followers, reach, money made? I'm very interested in how following them can help build momentum... please advise!! thank you!!

It makes them feel they're doing the right thing and that's how I felt when I started. Then again my content was quite unique. People may be discouraged to post when their post doesn't get that much attention. The #introduceyourself is doing great for newcomers and the day after, they're forgotten about and may not have the willpower to continue. That's just my opinion ;)

oh I see what you're saying about momentum now.. thanks for the advice!

It's all about who you know, you make a few whale friends and you are going to make some money every post, I have one year here, unfortunately, even though I do post a lot, I mostly comment when I don't agree with an article so I think that doesn't get me many friends, I have had a couple of whales (I think voting randomly) up vote a few of my posts and have had them go up to 20 or 30 dollars but mostly I get about 1 dollar per post.

I think that the trick that most are trying to figure out... how to make more than pennies and dollars on a single post... I have read several posts on formulas and tried to work them into a routine. But, like I said it is hard to ignore the obvious elephant in the room when you are new here... Thanks for the advice!
