RE: Upcoming Proposed Changes for Hardfork 0.17.0, making Steemit Simple for Everyone using the K.I.S.S Principle [Infographics]

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

There are a few details left off of the descriptions in this article. They've been discussed at length elsewhere I'm sure, but this article should be a summary and definitive guide for newbies for the hardfork 17 changes.

I think it would be great if some of the more prominent discussions and articles related to these issues were linked in the description text above. Details of why a change is deemed necessary and any supporting statistics or data don't belong here IMHO. This article does summarize the issues quite well with a few exceptions:

  1. Comment nesting level
The description explains what nesting looks like now but fails to describe how it will look after the hardfork, leaving users confused about what to expect.

  2. No time limit on editing articles or comments
Steemit is a blockchain based platform. Editing items previously committed to the blockchain is a counter-intuitive concept. It should be stated that the original and all subsequent edits of articles and comments can be retrieved from the steem blockchain, though stemmit.com will not provide that capability when hardfork 17 is rolled out. The blockchain nature of this platform should always be reinforced and users encouraged to keep that in mind, as that will remove any temptation for deception, intended or not.

Changes have always been patches that go in to later blocks . The Steem blockchain incorporates transactions quickly. I wonder whether this means votes on edited posts will be applied to the patch and thus get another seven days from the last edit or not.

I have no idea how votes on edited posts will be applied. Not sure how your reply relates to my comment tho.
