Things to Avoid When Commenting Posts on Steemit

in #steemit7 years ago

Hello Steemians,

as you know, Steemit is a unique platform that offers the opportunity to be financially rewarded for writing quality articles (or even commenting on them). This opportunity was a reason for many people to create an account here.

Unfortunately, many people do not understand that the rewards will not happen without effort and posting trash just wastes everyone’s time.

Some people who really put in effort spend hours writing and fine-tuning their new posts.

When the post is finally complete, the author publishes it and awaits feedback in a form of upvotes or comments.

So what are the most common mistakes when writing comments?

Complete Trash Comments

Do not be the guy who opens one article after another just to leave a comment like:

  • MADE MY DAY LOL NICE ONE BRO
  • awesome writing good man
  • give me your upvoite please
  • verry good

This is an example of comments that are absolutely useless. It's a disrespect for the author who spent a lot of time writing his post.

Did you read the post at all? Is it all that you say about the post? If you have nothing to say, why comment at all?

People here are not stupid and can recognize bad attempts to get upvotes.

Asking for Upvotes or Following

Don’t beg for upvotes or following. Tell me one reason why would anyone want to upvote such comment with no value. If you can find any reasonable aswer this question, you may actually deserve an upvote.

Begging also shows that you haven’t even read Steemit FAQ yet.

What is considered spam or abuse?

  • Asking for money, views, upvotes, follows, or resteems.

Copy-Paste Comments

Some clever people (but not clever enough) put in a little more effort and post universal comments that can be used for every post. They don’t actually read anything – they just put their universal comment under random (usually trendind) posts in hope for upvotes.

It isn‘t hard to spot universal copy-paste commenters. Just check their profile.

Flagging

If you post useless comments, beg for upvotes or following, there is a big chance that someone will flag you.

Flagging (also known as downvoting) may reduce your payout for the post or comment to zero, you may lose your reputation and your post or comment may also be hidden.

Valuable Comments

People are looking for a valuable feedback on their post. Take your time and read it. Then decide if you have anything  to say.

If you decide to comment, make it interesting. Nothing will delight the author more than an honest constructive feedback. Be creative.

Thank you for reading :)
