Learning to Utilize Steemit for a Better World

in #steemit7 years ago

Wow, Steemit seems to be a digital universe being created in real time and growing exponentially with zero limitations to be seen, well at least not in the long term. This Steem universe operates much like the one we live in the real world but how it is experienced is quite different. It's like being a kid again learning how it all works and figuring out how you can best contribute. The only challenge I have seen is getting people to take the leap from legacy social media to this new way of sharing, networking, curating and building of a new frontier. It's unknown so therefore scary to most, especially our older generations.

I keep hearing how difficult it is for an older person to learn. After much research I found that learning can be troublesome for anyone who hasn't been actively learning on a regular basis regardless of age or level of education. Learning is a choice and because it requires work, most people will find an excuse not to engage. The brain is a muscle and when you don't use it for a long time it stops working to it's fullest potential. Luckily for me I work on trees most days of the week and exploring each one requires a sort of learning, it's mentally stimulating to say the least :)

My brain was definitely showing signs of atrophy, especially in the Math department. Now that I am learning to code and build smart contracts on the Ethereum Blockchain, my math skills and logic have improved dramatically. It was truly painful at first and I found no pleasure in learning to read, understand and write code when I first started but now it comes easier and easier. Like starting to go for a run after a year of only walking. It's hard but to join the revolution on Steemit is well worth it and after just a couple of weeks it all starts to make perfect sense and the pain resides.

Another reason people stop learning is because they might not perceive all the rewards. That's another reason why Steemit is such a great asset to our modern culture, where folks are so hard pressed for time that it problematic to find the time to author or curate content on the internet. If we can be rewarded financially in real-time, then the incentive just might be great enough to create a spectacular shift away from legacy media sites over to these more rewarding systems.

I must say that Steem hasn't been easy to adapt to and there are sooo many questions that come up. I can't express how grateful I am for @earthnation and if you haven't heard of them, then you must watch their video introduction:

With leaders like this coming together to assist new members who want to contribute to the new paradigm, we will see a flooding of new devoted people with the skills and passion to create an entirely new system devoid of central powers where corruption has no place. The only powers will be ideas that people can choose to get behind, support and supply with new perspectives and valuable data necessary to help ideas grow.

Now I am empowered to write and share with my community like I used to when Facebook actually let my friends see my posts. It's so great to see how much interaction we receive here on Steemit and is especially nice to see a monetary reward associated with a lot of the things I do. How could you ask for more?

Well, I believe there are ways to bring this same system to the real world and can encourage people to carry out tasks in their daily lives that align with their interests and passions. A team of people in Phoenix, who I am trying to migrate to Steemit, and I are working on developing an organization that reward people for taking action in the real world and we are starting with food and permaculture.

I'll have more on this later but my point is that this is a place where we can bring our ideas to life and as they grow and gain attention and support, the monetary means necessary are also developed all without anyone spending a dime of their own money or asking it of others. This is a game-changer and the rewards and implications are extraordinary.

So yes, this might be something complicated that we have to learn but once we get a grip on how all of this works, we can really work together globally to create a new world that values compassion and togetherness, a world where we value all life and hold all of the essentials for life as sacred. The best part is that it's already happening, the very existence of Steemit means that this new world has already come to fruition and now we must simply spread the news :)
