Differences between SteemIt and Facebook
Yesterday, I was reading through some short post here on SteemIt. The author made the claim that SteemIt will be the end of Facebook. Those weren't his exact words, but it was evident that he thought that the two are very similar and are competitors.
It is the type of thing people on SteemIt say from time to time.
I just thought I would mention a couple of differences between the two.
SteemIt 'encourges' quality content. At least, that's what people say on here. There are bots to combat plagiarism and spam, and certain members will group together to downvote comments they don't like. There are often grumblings in the SteemIt community posts about people posting memes and jokes because they think it is spammy. All copied content also needs to have its source stated.
Most users of SteemIt are motivated by money. There is nothing wrong with this and it is even marketed as such. Many users will calculate how much money they can make and by doing what.
On Facebook, however, users tend to post whatever they want. Something comes into their head and they post it. If they see something interesting on the internet they will post a link to it. If they are feeling happy or sad, they will let everyone know about it. Very short posts about nothing are perfectly acceptable and considered normal.
Users on Facebook are mainly looking to feed their emotional needs - money doesn't enter into it.
The experience on Facebook and SteemIt is completely different.
SteemIt is just like a blog for articles where you can make money, whereas Facebook is much more personal, like a notebook where you can communicate with your friends and family.
In my view, they are completely different.

Agreed.. in my view, Steemit is where you can 'invest' your time by sharing your thoughts with the rest of the community, Facebook on the other hand, is where you 'waste' your time by telling people about your messed up or amazing lives, people who have a whole lot of shit in their own lives to be too concerned about yours!
Both have their pros and cons obviously, but I don't think these two platforms can ever be competitors to each other.
