What are Steem witnesses?
The Steem blockchain requires a group of people to make blocks and uses a consensus mechanism called delegated evidence of deployment, or DPOS. The community chooses 'witnesses' to act as a block producer and governing body of the network.
There are 20 full-time witnesses who each produce a block every 63 seconds.
A 21st position is shared by the back-up witnesses, which are proportionally planned according to the amount of weighted common approval that they have. Witnesses are compensated with Steem Power for each block they make.

On how many witnesses can I vote?
Each account can vote for up to 30 witnesses.
