"The Downfall of Dreamers"; An Abstract Poem With Futuristic Tones
T H E D O W N F A L L O F D R E A M E R S
People are dying, or perhaps they’re already dead.
At this point, there’s no stopping it.
It’s not as though we haven’t expected it, it was bound to happen.
Or perhaps as they’d say, “It was written in the stars”
Or some useless shit like that.
Damned to a fate, they’d say.
For love, for passion, for meaning.
They believed in something.
Unfortunately, that something didn’t exist.
But oh, they claimed it did.
You could never say it to their face.
Because if you did, you’d get a face-fulL of tears
And suddenly you’d be part of that existential nothingness they called inspiration.
They said they were dreamers
And that everything they saw existed only in their dreams.
Their touch, they claimed, was what made them unique.
It made them different.
Misunderstood
Mistaken
Mislead
Misread -
Their lips cradled these words.
And their eyes shrouded the truth trying to come free:
That they were on a path that leads to absolutely nothing.
How artistic, that their love of nothingness produced nothing.
How dreamy, that their dreams lead to this nightmare.
They should have fallen for logic
Instead of this love they call art.
They’d be far better off with a mathematical life
And calculable dreams.
The more they kill themselves off,
The more they seem to long for satisfaction to their craving.
But they don’t know what they’re craving is order.
They exist on abstract alone.
Oh, how little sustenance that provides.
