The Diminishing Trend of Resteeming and Rising Trend of Duplicating Posts
Hello steemians
This is going to be a short blog post (i dont normally write short posts) since I am on vacations but the message is too important for me to wait around till my vacations are over...
Preface
Resteeming button was designed for a purpose and that purpose was to share great content. Lately i have been seeing that people often hesitate to resteem posts that are worthy enough to be resteemed.
Why?
Well, there could be a lot of reasons not to resteem posts. But generally it has been seen that when steemians come across a perfectly good post, instead of resteeming it, they tend to make their own post on the same topic.
This is indeed a bad practice. Unless you intend to post a different opinion on the matter, there is aboslutely no need of rewriting an already written article in your own words to get some upvotes.
I have no examples to augment my argument here and even if i did, i wont share it because i never defame a fellow steemian just to get hits on my own post. It is my general observation since long and i wanted to share it with everyone.
Benefits of Resteeming Posts
Though the only disadvantage here would be not to be able to earn from resteemed posts but the benefits definitely outweigh this single disadvantage. Some of the benefits of resteeming good posts are as follows:-
Appreciation of Author's Efforts might compel him/her to follow you and subsequently reward you.
Promotion of Good Content on Steemit invokes Promotion of Steemit.
By resteeming quality posts, you are enabling your followers to see great content and hence are providing them a chance to reach out to more quality authors through you.
Resteeming quality posts will earn you great deal of followers. Please Remember that your followers follow you because you are a source who provide them with some great content. It is not mendatory that the content always needs to be written by you.
Please don't resteem a below average post just to please the author. When you perform a resteem, that means you support every word they have written in that article. It becomes part of your blog and if your follower won't like what they see, they might start leaving your blog.
Conclusion
I sincerely hope that we can bring back the culture of resteem in its true letter and spirit. We all are steemit and steemit is all of us. Be responsible when resteeming a post and be generous enough to admit that someone has indeed written a great article that deserves to be shown on your blog.
Peace and Love

Kindly consider to upvote and follow. If you want to add anything to what i have written, dont hesitate to make a comment
This deserves a resteem!
While my spirit of resteeming hasn't diminished yet, I have seen what you have seen. I agree with your findings and would like to add my observations too.
When people started giving less upvotes to others, voting bots found a place on Steemit to fill the need.
When people stopped resteeming good content, paid resteeming services started earning money for doing nothing.
Resteeming is an essential function of Steemit. @minnowsupport resteems good content on #minnowsupport tag. @ocd resteems good content. The people behind these initiatives realize the importance of giving much needed exposure to valuable content.
I wish more people will resteem. However, I have see people resteem just about everything. That is not desired. Resteem only what you have personally read and found valuable.
Great post! Resteemed, of course.
Excellent comment.. i agree with both of your points. Thank you for the resteem and i believe with the right education, steemians will again find their roots on platform.. and with time, voting bots and resteem bots shall disappear..
I don't resteem often but when I do the post is of something worth to me. Thank You for sharing this information. I will resteem more often from now and Have a nice Vacation !
Thank you very much for the comment.. do resteem good posts.. its a good habit to have on steemit :)
Yes these are some compelling reasons to resteem. Like you said it may not bring immediate rewards it can indirectly increase your earnings in the future. Resteeming this post now :)
Wonderful.. thank you so much for the compliments and you are absolutely spot on about resteem.
I don't resteem that often but save it for posts that I feel are exceptional. (Except when I'm required to resteem due to a contest's rules).
I don't like to see a lot of resteemed content in my feed since a lot of the time it looks like people have resteemed to get resteems back. And. when I look at people I'm considering following, if I see mostly resteems I move on quickly.
I haven't noticed people rewriting other's articles but maybe it depends on the categories you're most interested in.
I never said anything about using resteem frequently. My point is that people avoid resteeming a post and instead make their own post on the same topic without changing the narrative or opinion (basically rewriting the original post in their own words).
That is all subjective. I dont mind seeing 4 consecutive resteemed posts in a person's account as long as the posts are good.
It was good to have your opinion on the matter.. if you'd like to add anything else, please fee free :)
As a new steemit user it is sometimes hard to get your quality contents out, you can't reach out to many people. But when someone who has more followers resteem the post, the quality content reaches out to many people and gives a driving force to a new steemit user who needs a little encouragement
Yes that is true.. but if you have low following, you can still resteem good posts to get more followers.. no one comes to steemit with huge following (unless you are a celebrity). Everyone comes here with 0 following and they build their profile upwards.. so you don't need to worry about being new.. just focus on sharing and writing good content. You will be on top within no time.. :)
I agree with you. I think that right now, rather than to put out good content we have people just trying to crank out whatever they can to monetize it. If it is your post they're not making any money off of it. That, or they may just want people to see their content when someone clicks to look at their blog. Either way we're all going to have to work together here to make this thing work or else it isn't.
Absolutely right.. we have to go back to the roots where people used to resteem good content and upvote it. Now it is all about jealousy and "why is that person making so much money" and "i am not gonna upvote it since the author has already got 100$ on the post." We have to look past this..
I don't resteem too often so hopefully my followers will know that when I do it's because I feel it's quality
You should not resteem "too often". You are doing it right.. my emphasis was on people who never resteem quality content and instead try to make their own post out of it to earn some bucks on an excellent and thought provoking idea..
I believe if your content is worth it and provide great value, people will Resteem it organically without thinking.
Well m glad that you think so. I never think of my blog as a means to just earn money. I think of it as a means to provide value to the platform. Thank you for the comment
Obviously its need. Whenever i found a good post i resteem it. It also represents the choice of the blogger.
Absolutely true ..
👍
Restreming helps me stumble upon content and is helpful. Sometimes I take a peek at someone's blog and that's all they do which doesn't want to make me follow.
As a side note - it'd be helpful if we'd know when someone resteeemed our post so we can thank them.
Thank you for the comment..
there is indeed a way to find out about who have resteemed your post.
Go to steemworld.org/@yourname and see the tab "recent posts". Under there, you will find your posts. Click on any of the posts and few other tabs will appear. Click on resteem tab to find out who have resteemed your post
Please note that write your account name when visiting the website. In your case, it will be steemworld.org/@mikeycolon
Hope it helps
Like this.. these people resteemed my this very post..
I never noticed that tab. It stinks that you have to click on each post. I hope they add an icon or at least notify users on the Steemit site.
Thanks for taking the time to point this out to me! Have a nice weekend.
I think i have seen someone making a contribution on utopian on this very thing so hopefully i next fork or update, we will see this feature on steemit website.
No problem. As a matter of fact i didny even know that.. but your question intrigued me and i thought that there has got to be some way one can see who resteemed their post. So i did a little research.. because of you, i now know something too that i didnt before ^_^
Blessings
We're all here to learn from each other. There's tons of information to be found over at steemworld.org. You just have to dig deep.
