What I've Learned During My First Two Weeks on Steemit

Steemit is a wonderful platform to write articles that intrigue, challenge, open minds and educate. A place to speak freely, perhaps not free of judgment, but with responses that help support or present a healthy opposition. Some members start knowing a group of people that already belong, or if you’re like me, you get to start from scratch and build an online community of friends and fans.

Back in the day. I used to be an avid blogger. It parlayed into me securing a cookbook deal, and I had to remove the majority of my blog from the internet so the book was full of “original content”. I didn’t necessarily lose interest in my blog, but I didn’t want to post any precious recipes that could potentially be in Book #2. I left a little piece of my soul empty. I missed putting my thoughts and ideas out into the world. I loved the feedback, praise and critics…and my crass sense of humor always garnered some healthy criticism.

Now that I run a restaurant, I was using the excuse, “I don’t have time” to not rekindle my blog. Steemit has given me the motivational jump-start I needed to start blogging again, and for that, I’m very thankful.

I’ve learned that there are tricks of the trade to this site (bots, learning that I can’t just upvote a million things I like, commenting is important), and I still have very much to learn.

I’ve developed a real passion for Cryptocurrencies this past year, so this is also a great forum for learning and discussing that realm.

I’ve learned that my vegan recipe posts are received much better than my carnivorous ones, but I’m still going to post a mix of both.

What have you learned since you’ve been on Steemit? I know I have a long way to go…
