Phobias and Treatments!
There are many commonalities that people have with each other,yet another thing people have in common are the various phobias a person is suffering from.Below is a list of 5 phobias mostly seen in people ,their origins and treatments .
1)Acrophobia:
In this type of phobia a person is scared of heights .
This word is comprised of two Greek words:ákron meaning peak and Phóbos meaning fear.
In extreme cases this fear is dealt by using anti -anxiety drugs and antidepressants (under medical supervision).
2)Astraphobia/Astrapophobia/Brontophobia/Keraunophobia/Tonitrophobia:
In this type of phobia a person is scared of thunder and lightening.
This word is comprised of two words astrape meaning lightening and phobós meaning fear.
This fear at basic level is fought by breathing exercises and by exposing a person to lightening for him to eventually grow immune to it.In extreme cases cognitive behavioral therapy is given under supervision.
3)Aerophobia/Flying phobia/Flight phobia/Aviophobia:
As the name suggests ,in this type of phobia a person is scared of being in air ,be it on an airplane or any other flying vehicle.
Anti-anxiety medication,exposure therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy are various methods to deal with it.
4)Aquaphobia:
In this type of fear a person is scared of water,ranging from a bathtub to deep oceans.
This name is comprised of two Greek words hudór meaning water and phóbos meaning fear.
Ways of dealing with are exposure to water bodies so as to grow immunisation against it.
5)Thanotophobia:
In this type of phobia a person is scared of death and is anxious about the idea of being dead.
This word is comprised of two Greek words thanato meaning death and phóbos meaning fear.
This can be dealt at a personal level by training oneself to control destructive feelings and thoughts and surround oneself with positive things .Isolation must be avoided.
