A few weeks ago I came up with a great idea which was to share the way we work, in a large company, which is Palmeras el Puerto, for those who see this post that is the fourth part, the first part we talk about growth in the palm nursery, its growth and care here I leave the link, in the second part we talk a little about the second phase of the growth of the palm in a more extensive field with an irrigation system for rapid growth, here I leave the link, in the third part we talk about the growth in the final field, their care the work that is required for healthy growth, and the work done by field workers.

Fruit cutting

In this fourth part we are going to see the extraction of the corozo fruit, from the moment of cutting the fruit, until the transfer of it, the palms have a considerable height, as it had been explained in the first part, for this it is necessary use a tool called Malay, this tool is a curved aluminum blade, sharp to cut the stem of the fruit, welded to a long tube that is the one that will give the height to reach the fruit so high.

This tool is extremely dangerous, since its edge is extreme, and its long tube is loaned for possible unwanted cuts if it is used with a malfunction, many workers have had accidents with this tool, and since then it prepares very well the workers who manipulate this tool, since it is the first part of the extraction of the fruit, is the principle to harvest the corozo.

Collection of the fruit

Once the work of the cutters is done, the pilers are staged, this work is divided into several areas, since the weight of the fruit is very high, it varies between 35 kg, up to 75 kg, for this reason the cut and the collection is not a person's job, the fruit collectors pile up in several points of the sector where they work, many times I've seen them take turns because this is the work that most affects the column, because they move the corozo, and all the force leaves its spines added to this the fruit has very pointed spikes and about 5 centimeters long and it is very dangerous to manipulate this fruit, they use gloves to protect their hands but even the tines pass for this reason this Work is as important as all others.

The work of the fruit collectors is the second step to achieve a successful harvest, this work also meets a risk, since they are behind the cutters, and must be careful, since a fruit with such a great weight, falling with that height above a person could leave serious consequences, this is why this group of workers is carefully chosen, and they prepare themselves very well to avoid accidents, since if there is one the company is the main responsible.
At the same time it is a hard work, since it is about stacking around 20 fruits in one place, so that the next phase which is the lifting of the fruit, which is done by another group of workers.

Lifting the fruit

Once the work is done by the pilers, another group of workers, which consists of lifting the fruit piled and deposited in a trailer to be transported the industrial plant to be processed, use a pointed tool welded to a tube to nail it in the fruit and raise since the fruit has dangerous spikes and for this reason it is dangerous to raise with the hand, this tool is called chuzo, this work is the hardest since each worker raises around 6 tons of corozos daily, his work is not culminates in loading the corozo trailer, once you have done this, you must direct the corozo loaded trailer with 5 or 6 tons of cargo.

Towing the trailers is possible, thanks to 2 oxen tied to the trailer that these workers manipulate to direct the trailer, these workers apart from raising the fruit that is a task of the most difficult and forced even with that have the task of knowing how to manipulate these oxen, it is not easy to do, and dangerous, like all jobs, workers are carefully chosen and trained to reduce as little as possible an accident

Once this cart full of fruits is deposited in a larger trailer which has a capacity of about 30 tons, and the workers fill it in 2 days, once you fill the trailer with more than 30 tons.

Well, already when the workers who pile up and the workers who lift the fruit, and the trailer with more than 30 tons of corozo is filled, it is moved to the plant, this is possible thanks to a machine or tractor attached to the trailer to be towed. what is my job, I am in charge of taking the trailer to its destination which is the plant, requires great care as we carry around 30 tons of weight, and any error can be fatal.

This work is one of the most difficult because you have to drive very well, and be very careful to take the fruit to your destination, the plant is large and sometimes the cutting area to the plant can be up to 10 kilometers, maximum, without counting the bad way that may have remembered that we are adrift of a field of sowing.
