Profile picture upload on steemit. Exploit or legal? Suggestions
Trying to upload your profile picture to steemit? You might of noticed the profile setup only accepts links and not uploads. There is a way however.
You might of also noticed the link generated when you upload a picture to a story. That seems to stay available even if the story was published or not. So, you could copy that link and paste it in your profile setup and voila.
Now the only thing I don't get, is why isn't there an upload button in profile setup? Was it intended? Could really use some answers. In the case it was intended I would suggest that a relation be created between an image and a story and if the story is no more the image gets deleted.
That's pretty interesting. In fact, this means Steemit could be abused by using it as an image host without actually ever using the service. It would actually be quite easy to automate too.
Note: I'm definitely not saying people should do this (it's pretty bad for the community to use the site's bandwidth/storage without giving back by posting content). It would be possible though, which means eventually someone will do it (Murphy's law). I wonder how Steem could protect itself from this?
