I've done the same! My boyfriend joined Steemit three months ago and he explained to me why I should join too. But I didn't care that much, till I start checking what people were posting. Like you, I found people were very polite, some with valuable content and with good discussions! Then I also joined and I'm still discovering the potential.
There is so much potential! And there is a lot of reality too. This site is really working right now. I can't wait to see how it'll improve! Good luck to you! Aren't you glad you have such a smart boyfriend? :)
