The Greek Island with the Blueest Water in the World

in #steemit7 years ago

Few locations around the world boast the magical view of emerald blue waters, washed by banks of fine white sand.

  • The Greek island of Lefkada ( the White Island) is one of them. The fourth largest among the Ionian islands is distinguished from other fellow villagers with mountainous terrain and evergreen vegetation.Besides, Lefkada is not really an island. An antique channel has been dug in the antiquity that separates it from the continent. Today it is sandy, that is, it is the easiest Greek island paradise because it is reached by car.
  • What attracts tourists to Lefkada is its astonishing natural beauty, which is still preserved intact.

With one exception.

  • In November 2015, the waters of the sea swallowed up one of the most beautiful beaches on the planet - Eghrmeni.
  • The powerful 6.1 magnitude earthquake shook the area of Lefkada and caused a huge landslide that totally erased the beach, recognized as one of the world's smallest blue waters.
  • And although the world mourns for this lost paradise, Lefkada has more to offer to tourists.

  • The island boasts other beaches that are forever present in the world's most beautiful sandy beach ranges.
  • One of them is Porto Katsiki (the Bay of Goats), the most famous beach of Lefkada. The sandy sand is lying on the seashore, huge white rocks keep its shadow, and the color of the waters that pour it is an emerald son.

The nearest settlement is 12 km away, and Vasiliki, 30 kms, is the biggest surfing center in Europe.

To Porto Katsiki leads a tiny, elongated road from which incredible views are revealed.

If you are staying at Lefkada, you should also miss the amazing waterfalls Dimosari, the ancient city of Nirikos, the Faneromeni monastery and the medieval castle Agia Mavra.
