Mapping Steemit in an Interactive and Visual manner.

steemmap.co.za

A while back I started to wonder how can I contribute to Steemit more than just writing content. Different Apps started popping up. I wanted to contribute something interesting that may be of use in the future. Coming from a geography/GIS background Maps was the thing I know well. I felt that with mapping I could contribute something worthwhile.

Other mapping projects that do exist on steemit include:

The Powerdown Wealth Checker by @mauricemikkers where you can check users powerdown wealth against world nations! Fun indeed!

Steem Locator by @oumar where you can see where your Steem or Steem Dollars will be accepted in shop. Very usefull indeed!

Steem Spot by @originate for locating user close to you. Use full and fun!

Now Introducing the Steem-Map Project!

Ever wondered where the most Steemit users are found? You can look that up in one of the many Statistical apps for steemit on Steem Tools (by @roelandp) or NOW just check out Steem-Map!

Ever Wondered in which corner of the world the users with the most Reputation hides? You guessed it! Steem-Map to the rescue!

Where can the richest Steemers be found?

How to Use Steemit-Map?

The map opens up on the USERS distribution. When you zoom in or out the data changes according to your zoom level so you can narrow the distribution down quite a bit.

Clicking on any of the top row of buttons: REPUTATION, STEEM POWER or STEEM DOLLARS the corresponding data set is loaded and you have a new distribution to explore.

Clicking on the PARTICIPATE button will take you to a google form where you can contribute your own information. All I need is Username, Country, City, Age, Gender. (Not all are compulsory but highly recommended). The rest of the data is gathered by scripts that I will run periodically. All the data is then processed offline so that only the coordinates of your city is linked to the data collected by the scripts.

Steemit-Map Needs YOU!

For the Steemit-Map project to evolve I need your help!

To get the current data I had to read through almost a 1000 #introduceyourself posts just to get the data of approximately 250 Steemers. Only some of the introduction posts had enough info, Country or Town where the user live. And with the current growth of Steemit it is an impossible task to keep up with ALL the introduction posts. Combined with that not all users give such details in their introduction.

I need your help in obtaining more data. The more data I have the more representative of the Steemit community the maps will be. Which will lead to use full data that in return might help in things like marketing and the accepting of Steem or SteemDollars in shops etc. as soon as certain areas can see how much Steem is floating around in their area.

Safety:

The map is created in such a way that your Steemit username is not linked to the data publicly. All the data processing is done offline. Also, the data is linked to the city or town your live. Thus no close proximity geolocation. The only required parameters is your username and country

City, age and gender is highly recommended but I won't force you to give that out if you don't want to.

The Future:

Steemit is still in it infancy phase, not enough data exist and no-one really knows where Steemit will end up. If we start collecting data right now we can do a lot of interesting visualizations with it. In the future this data can also help in development of Steemit and/or projects inside Steemit. But before any future development can take place I need more data on where the Steemit Users live. I have some interesting data sets planned but nothing can go ahead without knowing where enough users live.

So please go to the website, (steemmap.co.za) click on Participate and fill in your details! Or you can access the google form directly HERE.

Please share this that more Steemit Users can submit their data!

And Remember to Upvote!
