Well, I joined steemit because I thought it might get really big and I thought it would be cool to get in early. A bit like joining Twitter or Facebook before everyone was on them.
I guess I also kinda thought maybe if I accumulate a few steem power and just leave them in, they might be worth thousands in a few years if steem goes the way bitcoin did, so in a way you're partially right.
However the problem is that I don't think this platform will work as a whole if everyone is only here because they want to earn money off it. I've seen other platforms based on self interest and they always end up failing. I'm not saying steem will fail, but maybe something will have to change about how it works for it to become successful.
I think it would be disengenous for any of us to say we don't like the money or that's doesn't play any role in why were here but honestly alot of content creators are just passionate about creating content and its not all about the money.
I'm kind of in the same boat as beh, while the money is intially what got me interested I create a crapload of content all over the internet for free, I like this site, I like the community, I like the blockchain idea behind it and if I can be an early adopter on a new hot platform even better but at the end of the day I enjoy chruning out content and connecting with people even if I'm not being paid. I can tell you if I was all about the money the type of content I put out would cater to the type of stuff that pays the most which isn't what I'm personally doing
