BEFORE YOU DIVORCE, THINK ABOUT YOUR CHILDREN
When parents’ divorce, the impact is usually measured on the lives of the separated partners and seldom on the lives of the children. Taking into consideration the fact that parents strive to protect the children, the effect is still felt, the degree of which varies among different children. To determine the real extent to which children are affected is not a simple task.
Most children are against their parents separating and are often stressed out when it happens. Divorce tends to strain the relationship between parents and their children which can lead to hate for the parent(s). These are one of the reasons children have a hard time during divorce. Divorce also increases the risk of children suffering psychological issues. Children also tend to exhibit some attitude changes and have issues with following orders. Depression, and anger are also some effects on the children.
Relocation, which is a common aftereffect of divorce is also one thing that children have issues with. They have to move from home to home, leave their friends, change schools and try to fit in a new environment. This might affect their education and performance at school and even hinder them from getting attached to people. An important thing to do in these kind of situation is to make the child understand what is going on. Everyone likes to be carried along. This helps to ease the shock of not seeing either one of their parents as frequently as they used to. It also helps them grow a thick skin and a resilient mind to issues of this kind. The above being said, staying with a partner that abuses you physically and otherwise is a good reason for divorce, no doubt. Asides the obvious reasons, parents should think about the emotional, mental and physical health of their children before getting a divorce. Please feel free to drop your ideas and suggestions below.
