RE: Racism on Steemit

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

If you are not a racist, i didn't call you a pig ;) sorry for that misunderstanding.

Let's just say that "race" is not a very popular word today. Rather use the word "ethnicity", which also makes more sense, because we are defined by more than just our genes. Most of these differences are physical, like skin color or average height, and don't influence how we act or the moral compass that we have. These things come from our culture, surroundings and situations we are faced with.

For example, the reason why there are more black people (or african americans) in US jails is not because they are more criminal, but because they are verifiably get harsher sentences for the same actions as US Americans from other ethnicities.

So, it is important to know the numbers, but also the historical and political influences to understand these numbers.

Isn't this the old "nature vs nurture" argument from psychology?

It could be possible that there are both genetic and cultural reasons.

One study shows Large Differences in Testosterone Excretion in Korean and Swedish Men ..., this is only one of many studies which shows a different bio-chemical makeup between races.

Bio-chemical differences between populations can definitely account for differences in behavior across large groups.

I don't think that makes any race or other group "bad" or "negative". What is a disadvantage in one situation can also be an advantage in another situation.

Also I recognize each individual is different so people can definitely exist outside the norm for any group.

It seems in your case you have come to the conclusion that nurture is 100% the cause of any behavior and nature is 0%.

I don't find your argument convincing because you only said it is true. You never said why it is true.

Why are you linking to a study about differences in prostate cancer rate and sensitivity to pharmacological male contraception?

I'm NOT talking with you about genetics. If you want something that is verifiable, because you don't believe me, how about believing the US Sentencing Commission, which "found that black men got 19.1 percent longer sentences for the same federal crimes".

You can trust the US Sentencing Commission to know more about that topic than you and me together.
