What is GDP:
Gross domestic product (GDP) is the monetary value of all the finished goods and services produced within a country's borders in a specific time period. Though GDP is usually calculated on an annual basis, it can be calculated on a quarterly basis as well (in the United States, for example, the government releases an annualized GDP estimate for each quarter and also for an entire year).
Context: USA had a GDP of 18.57 trillion in 2016
The richest countries have one thing in common, a proper and well established political environment supported by clear legislations, a corrupt-free government, and a strong judicial system. While these factors are only a drop in the ocean regarding what makes a country economically successful, the poorest countries in the world get these factors all wrong.
While the availability of natural resources is the foundation of an economically robust country, utilizing the resources well is a whole other aspect. This is not civic education 101, so we will get straight to the point and list the countries yet to realize self-actualization.

Conclusion :
I believe that these governments and the system in many of these poor countries are stacked against them. As long as they are playing catch up to the current Fiat system they will be behind. The west controls the banks that loan out the money, set the terms and we operate in a system of buy cheap, sell high. That leaves poor distabilized countries little option or bargain tools. My conclusion is that as long as poor countries clearly don’t have means to increase the GDP by selling their natural resources high, they will always be poor. A new natural resource needs to be created. Like Steem, or Blockchain technology. A new monetary system out of the hands of governments. By empowering people to create content and their own sustainability this can be achieved. Especially in the third world. What do you guys think ? Looking at this list of how little GDP these countries produce annually, a little Steem daily can dramatically change their populations situation. $5/ day steem is not much in USA but allot in these countries.
