Reading is a process of creative interaction between the reader and the text. If all the information in the text were totally new to the reader reading would be a tiresome process indeed. Understanding depends both on what is presents to the reader (text) and on what knowledge of vocabulary, grammar, and the reader’s world already processes before he or she starts reading .
type of reading:
Intensive reading
Grellet notes that “Intensive reading” means that the readers take a text, study it line by line, and refer at very moment to the dictionary about the grammar of the text itself”. it can be concludes that intensive reading was important because the main goal of reading is to comprehend the printed pages.
Extensive reading
“Extensive reading is considered as being reading rapidly. The readers read books after books. Its attention is paid to the meaning of the text itself, not the language. The purpose of extensive reading is for pleasure and information.
“Extensive reading is an aid to language learning, including foreign language learning, usingby means of a large amount of reading which is expected to statistically increase unknown word encounters and associated learning opportunities by inference.
Skimming
“Skimming is used to identify the main ideas of a text quicklyquickly identify the main ideas of a text. When people read the newspaper, the people are probably not reading it word forby word instead the people will scanning the text. Skimming is dones at a speed three to four times faster than normal reading. People often do the skim when they have lots of material to read in a limited amount of time
