Steemit 101

Steemit is a social network that rewards you for your contents and based on blockchain technology. One question that ponders in the mind of all minnows is "where does this money even come from"?. However the right answer is that is either mined or pre-mined and makes use of the DPos which is called the Delegated Proof of Stake and run by steemit witnesses.

However, the problem most users encounter when they join is that they do not get up to their expectations. I was once there but thanks to @Sirknight and His spectacular #celestialchallenge (lol). They wonder why they are not getting upvotes or may I say likes just as in facebook. However, the simple answer is that just like every other social media platform, interaction helps.

Nonetheless, the website has two major cryptos called the;

  • Steem
    *Steem Dollar (SBD)
    Steem is however preferred to SBD because SBD was intitially pegged at $1 while steem can easily aim for the moon. However, both are around $5. Nevertheless, Jaff8 stated that when he joined steemit, both of them were around $0.80. Therefore steemit is for two major kinds of people which are the "BLOGGERS" and the "INVESTORS". However, a blogger can become an investor by powering up his steem.

Steempower though is what actually determines someones influence on the website. If someone with 1SP and somone with 1000SP upvote a post, there is usually a difference between their votes. Therefore if someone wants to increase his/her influence, he/she needs to quickly power up. If you have a high SP you can increase your post payout.

When you initially join steemit, what matters most is not the number of posts you make in a day but about making posts that will earn you rewards. In fact when you join steemit, it is good to set up your profile picture as well as your cover photo so as to make anyone coming to your home (BLOG) feel welcome.

Therefore to upload an image on your profile, you have to have that image already on the net. You can then upload the picture you want to use to imgbb.com or postimg hen copy image link and post it on steemit. As a newbie on steemit, there is no need to start begin for upvote on steemit as it is forbidden.

Some of you newbie must have had issues with bandwidth before and what you should quickly know is that bandwidth is the capacity to do things on the site and that's why people with higher steem power have a high bandwidth and in case you want to check your bandwidth you can just click here. Then of course you can quickly add your username. However it is worthy to note that you cannot power up with SBD but steem. Therefore you need to first convert your SBD in a currency market like blocktrades to steem and then you can use it to power up straight up.

That was the first lesson in our first week webinar for enlightening minnows like me.....hahaha.

Nice 101 on Steemit OS. All good points you make, however here are a few other pointers - let's call them 'SirKnight's tips for success in Steemit for newbies'.

  1. 2-1 Rule - spend 2 hours commenting and curating for every 1 hour spent drafting your own posts.
  2. Authors who reward - if authors are willing to reward you for your comments - be sure to follow them and comment regularly. But always provide good quality, genuine feedback. Who knows - you might make a friend or two.
  3. Community - you must find a community of people with shared interests. Loners don't get far in Steemit.
  4. Do it for love and entertainment, not SP - if you are passionate in what you do, the SP will follow.
  5. Get to know plenty of Dolphins - Whales probably won't want to talk to you - but Dolphin votes add up.
  6. And when you have done all of the above - find your niche, do it often and do it well!

OK enough from me OS.
