All I Want for Christmas is an Orca...

in #steemit3 years ago

Christmas Day seemed like a good day to become an Orca.

So I just powered up 1870 STEEM to join the ranks of the 250+ Orcas on the platform.

Alas with the current price of STEEM even being an Orca doesn't give me a $1 vote.

That's a far cry from when I first became a Dolphin on 30 December 2017...

Different Times...

I joined Steem in June 2017 when the Steem price was just under $1.

For 6 months I rode the great Steem wave to when the price peaked at over $8 at the beginning of January 2018.

They were great days on Steem.

I even found this post about my targets for 2018...

There was a lot going on on Steem then. New ideas were bubbling up everywhere.

I was very involved with the Homesteaders & Preppers community that was very active at the time.

A Dollar A Day was just getting going.

And later in January I started my first show on MSP Waves - The Alternative Lifestyle Show.

I ran with that for about 18 months, until nearly 500 interviews later I had to hang up my mic.

I am sure looking to that opportunity coming back again real soon...

Times Have Changed...

A whole lot has changed on Steem since January 2018.

There have been ups and downs, fights and flags, splits and forks.

I have documented much of the change in over 400 editions of Steem News.

That has made me acutely aware.

Now we have a different Steem.

It is different in many ways.

We have different people, different communities, different content, different prices.

And we have one very big difference...

We seem to expect everything to come from Steemit.

Back in the day practically nothing came from Steemit. Nearly everything came from the community.

SteemPeak, Steem Monsters, SteemLeo, Actifit, PalNet, MSP and many more were all developed by the witnesses and the community - unaided by Steemit.

I hope we will see that sort of community inspiration and innovation again.

While there aren't now the delegations from Steemit and the DAO seems to be frozen in time, we do enjoy the luxury of the @steemcurator and the @booming accounts that never existed before.

They seem to support developers like @etainclub pretty well.

I do hope in 2022 we might see a lot more of that.

They are my Orca thoughts. They are worth no more than the 50,000 SP I can vote with now.

But that's all I have to say.

Good night and thank you for reading.

This is the point!
It doesn't get us anywhere if we just wait for the Stinc. to do something new. The users must also develop ideas on their own initiative...

Doing something new is good anyway as it is part of being creative.

This is one of the hopes that we really hope that in 2022 there will be developers who may exceed this

SteemPeak, Steem Monsters, SteemLeo, Actifit, PalNet, MSP and many more were all developed by the witnesses and the community - unaided by Steemit.

By the way, congratulations on the achievement. I hope you will always be successful wherever you are.

Keep up your job routinity @pennsif. I haven't been able to do of the big power ups, because I rarely get big account support, hope a lot of help on your support for the strength of my account. Thank you boss.

Congratulations mate. I regularly read your steemit news. You're doing a wonderful job. Have you made some 2022 plans for yourself? Reading your targets would motivate alot of us as well. I am also looking forward of being an Orca by the end of 2022.

Hi : @pennsif

First of all, I'm so glad you reached the 50K SP & Orca Category. Congratulations ! :)

I hope you see I've been trying to improve the SteemFoods Community and our curation account @steemitfoods for a long time. I try to encourage our users to produce the best content by using the support of manual votes with our steemitfoods account.

I hope 2022 will be a great year for steemit. I've been on steemit since May 2018. I hope everything will be better. We can achieve this together.... ✌️

I agree that this is a problem. My suspicion is that there's a tragedy-of-the-commons style problem, in that people are uncertain about the future of the platform so they are reluctant to commit time and resources to try to make it succeed, and if few people are trying to make it succeed then success is less likely.

Personally, my projects have fizzled because I kept running into issues where I couldn't accomplish 100% of what I was trying to do via the APIs, but I didn't want to deal with the hassle and expense of trying to get a full node running.

Congratulations on the achievement of the orca at the end of the year 2021, you have shown consistency and motivation for all of us. Hope to follow in your footsteps with a very regular basis.

Once again, congratulations on a fantastic achievement.

Congratulations on this great achievement, and thank you for sharing these thoughts... Certainly Steemit has changed like everything in life, we just have to make the change allow us to go very far.
Successes always !!
