"Rust" armorer shot dead by Alec Baldwin on a movie set and found guilty of involuntary homicide

On Wednesday, a jury found a movie weapons supervisor guilty of involuntary manslaughter in connection with actor Alec Baldwin's deadly shooting of a cameraman during a rehearsal for the Western film "Rust."

The assistant director had entered a plea of not guilty to careless use of a handgun the previous year, but the conviction against movie armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed placed additional culpability in the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in October 2021.

Due to allegations that, in an attempt to evade discovery following the shooting, Gutierrez-Reed gave a small bag containing potential drugs to another crew member, she was additionally charged with a second offense of tampering with evidence. On that point, she was found not guilty.

The 26-year-old armorer was taken under deputies' custody by the judge as soon as the judgment was read in court. Gutierrez-Reed will appeal the conviction, which carries a maximum sentence of 18 months in jail and a $5,000 fine, lead attorney Jason Bowles stated following the case.
