Dear developers, let's make a community Android app for steemit!steemCreated with Sketch.

in #steemit4 years ago

I've noticed a sheer lack of open-source android frontends for steemit.com. Sure, we have apps like Partiko, but we should never rely on these.

These apps are closed-source

Basically, closed-source means that the users of the app don't know what's happening behind the scenes.

It's entirely possible that these apps are spying on you, or even stealing your password. There is no way of denying this, since we don't have access to the code.

I think it's about time I gave back to the steemit community. Being a developer, I am always looking for new projects, and because I love privacy, you can bet my software will be safe :)

You can help

Yes! If you know how to develop in javascript, you can get started right away.
If you don't know how to code, but would still like to contribute, you can help by:

  • Testing the app by installing it onto your own phone
  • Publicizing the project on steemit and other platforms
  • Upvoting this post
  • Designing graphics for the app (such as the logo)

Any funding received from the project will be distributed amongst the contributors

Let's make this undertaking the most influential on steemit!

Getting Started

  • The app will be made in React Native. I am not considering any alternative.
  • There will likely be no iOS app since they charge a $99/year fee for getting the app into their store.
  • You can clone the project from here
