“Do you know what mutants are?” 20th Century Fox has released a first-look at the upcoming film, The New Mutants and with the dark hollow hospital setting and creepy figures protruding from the walls, the Josh Boone-directed X-Men spinoff takes a more horror genre approach than the usual superhero actioner one.

“This is not a hospital. It’s a haunted house,” a patient exhorts in the trailer, aptly dropped on Friday the 13th. Written by Boone and Knate Lee, the film will center on an angst-driven adventures of a diverse group of teens that include Native American Danielle Moonstar, Scots girl Wolfsbane, a Kentuckian code-named Cannonball, Russian teen Magik, as well as an alien named Warlock.
Over the last 17 years, 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise has grown to include a number of different mutants.
Fox’s next X-Men movie, New Mutants, is the 11th installment in Fox’s X-Men franchise and will focus on five young mutants who must band together to break their way out of a secret government facility. The movie is inspired by the characters created by Chris Claremont and artist Bob McLeod in 1982. The ensemble made their first debut in Marvel Graphic Novel #4. They were given their own series, which ran from 1983 through 1991. In 2003, a second New Mutants series was launched by Marvel Comics.
The movie adaptation, which stars Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams (Arya), is being directed by Josh Boone. Boone is best known for his work on the 2014 film, The Fault in Our Stars.
