What To Expect From a Social Network Like Steemit

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

The growing world of block-chain based reward systems is growing and it does beg the question as to what Steemit and other similar platforms have to offer.

I need to add, at this point, that I have very limited knowledge about the technologies and protocols of these things. However as someone who loves blogging, I have a vast interest in the networks I use to blog my work. I do struggle to promote my crypto blog (still) to the outside world as a lot of my contacts, friends and networks do not use it.

Here are a few things to discuss. I would be interested in any views.

  • Is the rise of block-chain rewards causing a clutter of internet garbage? I see some similar sites to Steemit require investment to comment, post and just support a persons writing. Is this better, or not? Does it work to iron out time wasting content?
  • Are the reward systems a good use of democratic voting, or just a capitalist venture? Is it healthy for our economy?
  • Is this a better blogging alternative than creating money from a website blog, or none block-chain blog? Is it more profitable in the long term?
  • Does the inability to organise blog content hinder what you would like to achieve from a block-chain post, and if it does, have you found a way around it ?

This is a discussion piece so happy to hear different views, perspectives and ideas for bloggers.

P.S I love block-chain based reward systems, but I also love the freedom of my own blog site

and the ability to categorise as and when I need too, so I do both.

I am with you on that, Steemit is fun and a great concept... but I still favor my web blog format better as it seamlessly connects all my needed areas of focus. I am looking forward to either SMT's or EOS based systems, to convert my sight somehow to a block-chain reward system like this.

Thanks @kyusho. What does smt and eos based systems look like? (sorry...not technical)

No clue yet, but hopefully and at least with EOS June 2nd launch will tell us. I am not technical either but will be hiring a tech to build a website like community on whichever platform can do what needs doing.

That sounds very interesting. Do let me know when you know more :-)

The main problem of Steemit in my opinion is that good contect doesn't pop up. If you don't have enough SP your good contect is discarded so to speak. I like the reward system as well but it takes a lot of time to gain some visibility.

@nedy...good points. Yes, the good content thing is an issue and you are right with the sp. If rewards came with unique views, that may help too. On the other hand I suppose it is what is regarded as good content, and what are the current trends. Do you slip into different trends to gain rewards, are stick to what we know ?

Ok, I will tell you one other thing that is important and is actually my little advise to you ;)
As I can see you've gained a lot of reputation over time, you are now at (67) and logically everyone will expect that you have a lot of SP too, but this is not the case. Your SP is extremely low, less than 20 STEEM at the moment. If you don't Power Up or in other words invest into the platform, you can't expect to gain loyal followers. You will only get some random upvotes now and there. When folks find out (and that is very quickly) that your upvote is worth $00 they won't stick with you anymore. We are selfish enough to stick only around those from whom we will get some rewards back.
So, I believe if you convert your SBDs to STEEM and then Power UP, you'll be rewarded much more consistenly and you'll enjoy the platform more ;)

Some very good points and whilst I agree absolutely with what you say, I have no intention of investing at the moment, due to focusing my finances on my business and studies. For most that would be key to financial growth. I am interested more in terms of views and search engine and organic growth to share content. In time I may reinvest as Steemit paid for my business last year (As I powered down a good amount, hense no sp ) but my main goal is to keep it running with content and gain knowledge along the way. Then If I feel I would like to invest money and time in Steemit then I am more prepared. :-) Since the start I earned a third of my self -employment wage on here, without investment, but I have other projects that need more time. The questions posed are to sort of prepare me for next year, when I have more time to invest.

Yes, that makes sense! Third of your self-employment wage, wow! Wish you all the best in your endeavours and see you around ;)

Thankyou!! I'm sticking around. If I had not of needed the money to finance my business stuff, then I do believe I could have been doing this full time by now. So you do have some really good points that will help others :-)
