11 Alternatives To Steemit - Times Are Changing
Today I looked for other decentralized social media platforms and found many.
Actually I'm very excited for the future of steemit and from a egoist pespective I hope it will be always big, because I builded something up here in the past 1,5 years. But still I have some FOMO when I see how much other projects are going to do the same or something similiar. Especially when it comes to certain points there is potential for others to make it way better. On steemit the trending page is "owned" by whales, new users barely have a chance to enter this area. Also the communication from steemit is not the best for someone who doesn't want to check Github for everything. If another site can make it better, especially avoid the "whale centralisation", Steemit can quickly become the next Myspace. I really hope this doesn't happen, but time will tell. Not all projects offer exactly the same as Steemit, it is always possible to coexist.
Anyways here is a list of other projects I found. I still feel like I didn't found all. Do you know more? What do you think about those projects? I don't know most of them, but I am curious which ones are promising.

How often do you flag garbage content in "trending"?
I'm always struggeling doing this. You know, when someone posts pictures of the fish he/she ate in a five star restaurant, it is not necessary garbage content. But it shouldn't be in the top posts for sure, it is just way to boring for being voted so high :p
So you have tools available to you to change what's on trending, but don't use them?
Do you?
How they get there in the top trending? I check the content from many top trends, and they are not even well written. What is going on? I am still trying to understand.
IT'S A BIG SCAM. People with high steem power vote for themselves. On some of these top trending posts it is quite obvious. There is no future in steemit.
agreed
I have heard of yoyow but I thought we should pay them or something for a subscription? thanks for the list and I hope steemit does not lose its original intention because of the whales and spammers - both bad
I didn't try to register there yet, don't know. But that would be devenitly speaking against it. Yes you are right, the more important to keep this topics discussed and active: whales and spammers...
Steemit stated a trend. I think though I will stick with Steemit.com. Kind of like being in a relationship...when you find a good one you stick with her. LOL
I'm also currently sticking with it because it offers amazing opportunities. But I wouldn't compare it to a relationship personally. It is not a living being. Once there is something better I will join the change. Otherwise I would still be on myspace :D
are you guys listening to yourselves? You made 4 cents total in these comments. The big fish vote for themselves, which leaves 95% of us fighting for our 5 cent scraps.
LOL :-D I upvoted and gave you an additional 0 cent ;-)
(or in other words, I agree)
Sehr gut geschriebener Artikel ^^
nice info. I tried some of those social media (akasha, yoyow, yours, synereo - and echat, that is a messanger) but honestly it takes too much time to get acquainted with more than 2-3 social media for me. steem, twitter, reddit and some discord-telegram-slack chatrooms filled my free time :)
I just tried Synereo of them when it came out and didn't liked it so much, because it was not working...
Yes you are right, what is there allready takes a lot of time. Actually I'm using exactly the same media as you right now :p
I feel that "whale" problem which Steemit has is almost unavoidable for any social network which incentives users to create content. Hopefully, Steemit will find a way to fix this. Steemit is still only in beta so I will keep optomistic. Thankyou for the post!
It is a hard task for sure. It is not easy to give the whales less power without being too authoritarian as the operator. But as there are so many projects I'm pretty sure we will see different approaches on this...
Not really a hard task. Just make it so people cannot vote for themselves.
I think that the comparison to Myspace is a bit too much. Steemit's user-base is growing too much for that to be the case. Besides, I don't think that any of the alternatives that you've listed has shown enough growth to be able to compete with Steemit yet.
There are still many things that Steemit could still improve on, but that's another discussion altogether.
I do appreciate the write-up of all Steemit alternatives, bookmarking for sure!
Yes, it is provocative for sure. Steemit is still at an early stage with way more potential upwards compared to myspace when it died. It is more a long term comparison. What if other projects which start now will slowly overtake steemit in 2 years? Who knows. Time will tell. But I want to be ready in case it happens :p
It's not smart anyway to put all of your eggs in one basket, so to speak. You can always use those other platforms to cross-post, so you're building an audience at multiple platforms.
On the contrary, it is actually smart to place your eggs in one basket. All you have to do is take proper care of that one basket. If you start chasing three rats, how many do you think you'll end up catching?
I also agree with you that there are many ways in which steemit can be improved. As a matter of fact, i wrote an article on that very topic of recent. I couldn't get enough attention though, an irony of sorts because this is one of the things such posts are meant to address...

"On the contrary, it is actually smart to place your eggs in one basket."
Good insight. That must be why every financial expert in the world warns against diversification. Oh wait... they don't.
Those new users will soon leave once they find that their posts are not even making 2 cents. the trending page is "owned" by whales, new users barely have a chance to enter this area. I have been here half a year, and consider leaving each time I log on.
@sature, I've found your post to be worthy of a resteem and upvote from me. I'm an actual person and I am doing this on behalf of the Resteem - Upvote movement. Join the movement, read about it here: https://steemit.com/steemit/@jackmiller/a-call-to-arms-beat-the-bots-the-movement
I'm going to have to check all these out, thanks for the links!
Really great!
