If You're Going To Use Bid Bots 🤖 Do It Right 👍

in #steemit7 years ago

We can probably debate forever as to why you shouldn't or should use bid bots (and we will later), but today I want to at least show the people who are using bid bots how to do it most effectively. I've made a post about this before, but this one is going to touch on one crucial point I didn't include before. If you'd like an overview of the basic features of SteemBotTracker check it out here: https://steemit.com/steemit/@scottcbusiness/steembot-tracker-upvote-bot-tracker

Then I did a rundown on Front Running Bid Bots here: https://steemit.com/steemit/@scottcbusiness/front-running-bid-bots-on-steembot-tracker-earning-more

https://steembottracker.com/bottracker.html is an essential tool for bid bots and one I will rely for this post. It was made by @yabapmatt and for that you should probably toss him one of your witness votes (and for everything else he does).

Anyways moving right right along....

Scroll down a little bit on the site and you'll see all the major bid bots

Now again the other two cover the basics I just wanted to show you one major thing that I've been doing wrong for the past few months and am now doing right and it's making a huge difference. That one thing is, waiting.

Waiting?

Well originally I had this idea that the sooner my post had the upvote, the better it would be, because it would then be trending sooner and all that jazz. The thing I was neglecting was that if you are going to upvote your post with a somewhat significant value (so far I've done about 10$ and it's always worked), your posts appear on the front-run for the bid bots. You also have to make sure you post your bid to a bot that has a next vote at least 1-2 hours away to give time to people to upvote you.

You can see the by going to the top menu and clicking it

This will get you WAY WAY WAY more upvotes because people are trying to make money and thus they will upvote you more.

This had made an impact on my posts and though while bid bots and such could be considered unethical, I look at it in a moral gray because if your post is still quality, then no harm no foul. The issue is more so where a low quality spam post is allowed to boost itself and clog the trending feed.

Get More Votes From Bid Bots Summarized

  • Bid on the bots who's next vote is farther away
  • Make a sizeable bid (around 10$)
  • EARN MORE

Now because I don't know the exact number of how much you need to bid for it to appear on front running, but I will comment if I figure that out exactly from Yaba or edit it if there's time.

Look I know this isn't for everyone, but you will earn your money back and usually some more on top, gain some reputation, and get more awareness and people checking out your stuff. It takes a little bit of money to get going, but no one is stopping you from just investing 20$ to keep doing this round and round.

Let me know what you think of this strategy, if you front run ever to earn SP (great for minnows), and your thoughts on bid bots in general. Keep in mind though that I'll open a debate discussion around bid bots in the future and we can dive into it more in-depth there.

It looks like you can hit #1 for as low as 10 SBD maybe even lower. There is a lot of math involved though.

Exactly, and even though I've used bid bots casually for some time I never tried bidding on long awaited bots for this benefit because I had the mentality of let's get this up asap and get awareness

I'm not sure I understand about the front running bots.

Looks like the tracker interface is listing the posts that are expecting a decent sized vote. Being ahead of this vote is a boost to your curation rewards.

I recently stopped giving prizes out for one of my curation leagues, because I see upvoting a post without regard to its quality as not how to Steemit.

You are absolutely right. It encourages potential low quality post boosting. Mind you, these posts are going to get massively boosted anyway not because of front running but because of bid bots allowing low quality posts to be massively boosted. IDEALLY, as minnows they should be able to profit off of the well curated boosted posts by adding to their pool and earning some curation rewards. This would be the case if bid bots didn't allow so much spam. This is more to explain it for people and let them do as they wish. I know my posts are quality and useful. I boost them, hence I want front running done for my posts to make them more noticed

I have another post I linked that explains it. Basically you are just voting ahead of the bid bot for curation rewards

Thank you for this. I just found out about upvote bots and tried one for the first time. I can't really see a good reason to not use these. I wrote up what I thought was a good post. https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@stever82/cryptobridge-a-decentralized-cryptocurrency-exchange-for-the-altcoin-market-review-of-use-with-simplepospool After a few hours I got a few upvotes from some of the guys in the discords I was in and that was it. So I tossed a upvote at it. I didn't see the risk as you get the money back and maybe it get someone else to look at it. If I didn't do this my post would have just sat around doing nothing. Also it allows someone new like me to use a tool to build up my steem so I can power my account so I can then give out upvotes that are worth something. I really don't see the drawl back unless your spamming them on meaningless post just to make money. I might not be writing about new things but I fell like my post wasn't just a waste.

Yeah exactly, like the main issue with bid bots is low quality and spam posts being allowed to trend

yeah man I hear ya, the 2nd post I did I got all these spam post and avoided them like the plague, but know that I read stever82 I'm thinking the same thing-- the posts are never gonna propagate unless you put some coin into it. Just like YT, FB or whathaveyou. Harsh realities. Now just trying to wrap my mind around the most efficient and ethical manner of doing this. and yeah kudos I don't want my posts flooded with spam-comments. My goal is to get some real dialogue going in comment section.

Yeah you can go on steembot tracker and there is an icon of a comment with a line through it to show you that your post wont get a spammy bot comment

very good information from you, lately people are using a lot, several types of bots in this community which help people to climb more and more to the top, there are many bots posing as users must be very aware with that.@scottcbusiness

Yeah for sure. This is basically to help minnows understand front running better and how they can invest in their account and or people with a bit more SP and SBD who want to utilize this nice feature

This post has received a 9.62 % upvote from @booster thanks to: @scottcbusiness.

This post has received a 0.16 % upvote from @drotto thanks to: @rudyardcatling.

it also depends on your budget ofcourse, if you are really plankton (like me for instance) you might want to try the lower bots like @drotto , @minnowhelper-1 (up to @minnowhelper-5 )and probably a lot more i havent found yet who will give you a very light boost for 0.001sbd only (starting at -). It's not much but there's also not much you can do with 1 promille sbd, but its enough to get you over dust treshold so your posts pay out even if you don't get traction (which is kinda hard at the start, not everyone can pump out a 100s dollars post a week and not everyone is a whale who came into it with money and can simply upvote themselves straight from here to mars like that)

if anyone knows of any others please let me know :)
there's also

@nanobot , @minibot , @microbot (but those have a max requirement for sp if you want to use them, different each)

these can get you enough to promote your next post and give you a very slight increase in sp too, which in the beginning is very linear and i think you need several thousand to actually start moving towards an exponential curve there, i didnt quite do the math

the minnowhelper series doesn't leave a comment either so your reply section looks nice and clean, thats all personnal preference

Yeah I built off small bots and used minnowhelper when I was starting. I put some money into Steem so that I could do boosting. So I guess if you really want to get awareness it's pretty ideal to invest 20$. You probably won't really lose any of it and your posts will be seen. It's like advertising on a platform except you get the money back after :) That's basically how I see boosting

Really enjoying the conversation hear. I would like to ask a question. What is, a quality post? I get what spam is, but it seams to me that “quality” is subjective. For instance, I’ve read over some trending, new and hot posts and personally did find them all that great. While others were, In my opinion, deserving. But that is really the question. Who determines deserving? Is it the “ Wisdom of the crowd”? If so, fine. In that case no matter how much $ or effort I invest my stuff will never trend, as it appeals to a very small group. Any thoughts? Please understand I’m not whining. I just want to understand how the system works, so I can make informed intelligent decisions.
Hey Scott, thanks for the intel. Really appreciate your efforts.
Ken.

For sure. I guess in my opinion as long as it isn't spam AND is in the right categories it is fine. That is my understanding right, but if I see someone posting about their dog in #crptocurrency that is basically spam. And yes maybe #steem and #steemit can be used for anything but for me it makes sense that posts in those categories have some relevance like a post about steemit or educating people on steemit or talking about the steem blockchain, you know?

I think I do. But to be clear what I think I hear you saying is that if a post is properly tagged and is using a bidbot properly, and the post is a “quality “ one, any post has the potential to hit trending or perhaps hot? If that’s true then I think there is cause for minnows to be hopeful.

Yes any minnow with a small investment can hit trending and end up getting their profit and their original investment back every time as long as you put in effort to your posts. Like realistically you should stay safe and boost your most quality value driven content. Like if I just post a picture on steepshot and write "This is my dog" and it's my dog and I boost it by 30 SBD it's kind of unreasonably that such a low effort post would be trending or hot. Keep that in mind. Because that's where it becomes an issue, when people think you shouldn't be trending and flag you.

can the bidbots cause unwanted bots to hit your posts and flag you for spam or plagiarism even though you're creating original content? I follow this guy who does quality posts of old Commodore games and he always has the bad content bot. its creating a chilling effect and making me reluctant to invest in steem if it's just gonna backfire and put my account into a blacklist for promoting.

It depends on the quality of your post and how much you promote. If you overpromote and people think you shouldn't be a top trending post they will flag it. It's largely relative and if you feel you're being harassed you can apply for flag abuse to have bigger votes counteract it

What are bid bots?

Well um you can boost your posts by paying a whale to upvote it thus getting your post seen by alot more people and then ideally making profit on top off your investment and repeat

I was not sure how to use bid bots. Thanks to @scottcbusiness now I have a better understanding. I try my best not to post low quality and avoid booster bots when I do. Thank you for this treasure trove of information and your hard work is appreciated.

In my other posts linked they should explain using bid bots on bot tracker pretty well :) Cheers
