Comparing steemit to reddit
Little over a week ago I had a discussion about steemit and how wrong it was to compare it to Reddit because they don't give karma for self posts.
That is to say, the tagline for steemit seemed to unofficially be " like Reddit, but you get payed for posts". My counter argument was that since Reddit don't give karma for self posts (you have to choose between a link post or a text post), it would be wrong to compare them because the incentive structure of Reddit is weighted towards sharing links (they call them selves "the frontpage of the internet"), and not blog posting.
Well. Today we can start to make that comparison after all, for from now you will get karma for text posts after all.
Not that it really matters anymore. Karma won't give me any cash anyway. ;)
Reddit is doomed!
Don't get me wrong. There will still be a market for Reddit for a while still, but I believe that in stead of most of the links being shared from different news medias, they will link to content from here :)

That is a really great point I hadn't thought about. Reddit incentives more sharing and steemit incentives text base stories. Though I believe if you wanted to you could create a new platform that viewed shares differently you could. Unfortunately this might be because steemit doesn't provide image or video hosting so it makes new user's steer away from uploading content and instead creates a wave of text and stories and experiences. Great post!
Yes it would be pretty easy to make a sharing platform like Reddit with I something like steemit, but do we really want that? I at least think that steemit is much more valuable because the content is more valuable (in a lot of ways), and I believe it is just a matter of time and maturity before most quality content will be made here, pushing even more of the traditional medias out and under.
We will see if course, but I am hopeful ^^
Well what I love about steemit is that it encourages whatever you want. If people want new stories and blogs then you will see it. Thanks for the post.
