Starting out on SteemIt. Advice please.

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Hey Steemians,

I'm new here (only been here a week) but I've been very surprised at how quickly new content get drowned out in the noise. Even though I've only been here a week, I'm starting to wonder if it makes sense to spend much time writing posts when only one person sees it.

I'm not being bitter so please don't think that. I'm only looking at this from a realistic point of view. Why waste time on writing stuff that nobody reads ? Forget the money aspect for now. I'm purely speaking about investing time in writing stuff and thinking it out.

I guess you need to wait until you've built up a decent follower base, but in the beginning I am wondering if it's even worth investing much effort.

Any thoughts appreciated.

The more you interact the better you'll do. Post about things you're interesting in, but don't post too much or your followers will get tired of it. Upvote stuff you like, and that's about it :)

Thank for he advice. All taken onboard. I have been trying to upvote and comment so I guess I'll continue that for a while and see how it goes. In the meantime I probably won't invest too much time writing for now.

It's all about timing and hoping a whale will bite.

Or, you could try one of the bots, but I'm not up for spending money to get upvotes.

For me it's not about the whale thing. I want to write what everyone wants, not a few people. I don't see the point in only writing for a few in the hope of getting a decent upvote one day. But maybe I'm thinking totally wrong about Steemit.

No, write what you want to write.
But, for it to catch fire, it usually takes someone with great upvoting power to land it in the Hot and Trending, which will make others see it.

Yeah, I get that. I'm OK with it but it doesn't make for an ideal community when only a small handful of people basically control the platform and decide who does well.

Anyway, I am carrying on for sure. I do like it here but I still think it has some major flaws that only benefit a small few.

Onwards and upwards. Certainly not stopping.

Well, the other options seems to be creating some sort of hashtag contest for others to follow and then those who are interested in that hashtag know who is contributing to it.

I'm not sure how well that works outside of photography.
