Steemit - Where Spam and Narcissitic Internet "Celebs" Reign

Social media is a platform for mostly narcissitic people. Posting pictures of themselves or making statements to brag and bring about a feeling of admiration amongst their peers or people whom they do not know.

Has Steemit provided a platform for so called internet celebrities to monetise their narcissism?

Consistenly, the bigger players make more money as can be expected. But what about the minnows?

Is the steemit platform so fundamentally flawed that the only way minnows can compete is by having their content curated by the whales?
During my time on Steemit I have seen all sorts of elaborate schemes to redistribute Steem amongst the users. Including, steemit bots that upvote spammy content.

I don't know if Steemit aimed to create a decentralised platform. If it did, it has certainly failed.

Perhaps, the only way to make money on steemit consistently is to become one of these Internet celebrities.

It is sad because those that do not have that type of status will not be able to gain the attention these 'celebrities' would. They can easily rack up followers and gain a decent fan base while being able to also gain monetary value. It seems like a win-win battle for them however, for those that do not have that kind of power it seems like it might take much longer for people to notice, read or see any of your content that may be more meaningful than those that are just using it for narcissistic and monetary gain. It does pose benefits for those that can attain it but many won't be able to do this easily.

Don't care about 'money' or popularity. The community is for love and encouragement.
Art for art's sake,
Money for God's sake.
Peace, out.

Yeh I noticed that people try getting steem through shitposting or random comment (extraordinarily random sometimes).
I feel that by the time this gets a little bit more known and the level of content creator grow a little things are gonna change for the better.
At the same time users I see that are actually making something out of steemit right now are at least posting something decent.

Personally I'm waiting to see how Synereo will turn out. Probably better.
