After much deliberation and conversation with members of the community - we decided to officially launch the Steem Onboarding project earlier this week. We want to say a massive thank you to the Steemit Community for the overwhelming support this project has received so far. One of the missions of the Steem Onboarding project is to create a consistent onboarding experience for new users globally. We plan to start with 10 languages for the beta test of our site and then continue to expand as we grow.

The First 10 Languages

After much deliberation - we have decided the first 10 languages to be featured on the site will be as follows:

  • English
  • Spanish
  • Korean
  • Cantonese
  • Japanese
  • German
  • Russian
  • French
  • Mandarin
  • Thai

divider.png

Open Positions

For each language, we are looking for one team member to translate the video scripts and produce the video content. We would eventually like to expand the team for each language to add a second person to help with written translation. To start off though, whoever fills each position will need to do both the written translation and video content.

Over the last few months as we were cooking up the idea for Steem Onboarding - we reached out to a few people to test the waters and see if they would even be interested in translating and making videos for us. We want to say a huge thank you to @travelgirl, @ramengirl, and @fukako for believing in the project early on and being so willing to jump on board. You guys played a huge part in our confidence to move forward and we can't thank you enough.

This means that a few positions are already filled! The current team/open positions are as follows:

English - @coruscate

Spanish - @anomadsoul

Korean - @ramengirl

Cantonese - @travelgirl

Japanese - @fukako

German - OPEN

Russian - OPEN

French - OPEN

Mandarin - OPEN

Thai - OPEN

Translation and Video Team (2).png

You are a good candidate for one of these positions if:

  • You live and breath the core values of Steem Onboarding. To provide a positive onboarding experience for new users that helps them to become valuable members of the Steem Community.
  • You are dependable, quick to respond, and able to meet deadlines.
  • You have a “can-do” attitude and are excited to bring this project to life.
  • You have the ability to produce quality video content for short, two minute videos.
  • You are able to translate short scripts in writing.
  • You are personable on camera and can easily build trust with your audience.

Expectations and Work Load

To start out, we will need the first 10 videos translated and filmed by December 15th. At that point, we will evaluate with each person to make sure the project is still a good fit for both parties and then move forward with additional scripts. The remaining scripts will be given to you in sections and will need to be translated and recorded within a short turnaround time. Exact dates TBD.

This project will be a lot of work up front to get the bulk of the onboarding videos created, and then will require some additional work throughout the year as new topics come up, changes are made, and new videos need to be created.

The Project Manager for organizing the video creation for each language will be Lea (@coruscate). Those who are selected will receive instructions from her on video expectations, where/how to send video files, communications on scripts etc.

Why Join The Video Team for Steem Onboarding?

First of all, this is going to be a massive community effort that will touch every single corner of the Steem ecosystem. Steem Onboarding is meant to support every other dApp and Steem based community by helping to not only onboard quality steemians - but connect them with communities and dApps that fit their needs. Being on the video team for Steem Onboarding will help to give you more visibility and notoriety within the Steem community.

Second, the goal of these videos is for you to explain the concepts of Steem - just like you would to your best friend, or even your grandma. Our desire is to make that easy for you by writing the scripts in a way that is personable and approachable to the average consumer. This also means that you will essentially be the face of Steem to the people coming onboard through your language. By the end of the trainings, they will have a special connection to you. This will help to grow your followership and engagement from new users coming on board.

Third, we are currently putting the final touches on our business plan which will help to fund and support the project. At this point - we understand that we may not be able to offer you what your time is worth to be on our team, but we look forward to helping to support you in your own Steem Journey as the project becomes more profitable. In the meantime - we are allocating funds from our own pocket to help thank you for your time. Details below.

divider.png

500 Steem Bounty

We will be funding 500 Steem towards the creation of this first batch of videos. We will be paying 50 Steem to each of the video creators for their time translating and recording the initial 10 videos.

The Steem bounty will be paid out to the creators upon completion of the assigned videos.

This project is exactly what Steem needs and for that, it has my absolute support.

I still remember my own first days & weeks on Steemit, which were shaped by many question marks in my mind. Why isn't anyone reading my posts? What is the difference between Steem and SBD? What is curation? Should I upvote directly after a post was created or do I wait?

And while I somehow answered all these questions, it was a long and bumpy road. If at that time, there would have been an initiative like @steemonboarding, everything would have been a lot smoother and more efficient.

So with that said, it's a pleasure supporting this post with a sponsored 100% upvote from Smartsteem (@smartsteem).

May this be the kick-off of a partnership to help make Steem a better place!

I think we all had some of those problems when starting and if we didn't have a mentor or a friend dedicating hours to teach us, it was incredibly hard to get a hold on how the platform works, and that was months ago, right now we have tons of dapps and communities, I can't imagine how hard it must be to be a newbie these days.

Thanks for the support and the massive vote man, and yeah, let's help make the Steem community the best version we can be!

It's super hard. Most start off posting content, wondering why they are not getting any views/comments/likes. So they look around, find out about something called "bid-bots". So they buy some STEEM to use it for promotion of their post. And then suddenly someone complains under their post that they shouldn't use promotion.

I can understand all the participants of this circle and I truly believe that your project with @coruscate will bring big changes.

Great point @therealwolf! If we consider that STEEM as a token and steemit as a blog interface are confused 24/7, this is a great plan to have some ACTIVE marketing towards outer space (IE cryptocurrencies).

That's why I think steemit.com should be renamed to avoid the confusion, or a rebranding of the steem token itself.

I think that as well @inventor16. Maybe a new interface for blogging will soon be the new standard!

Exactly. It's a horrible fact that so many people confuse Steem with Steemit.com.

It took me a long time to understand that Steem does not exist just because Steemit does. When I finally figured that out, a whole buncha other stuff started making sense. I'm perpetually surprised to discover how much I still don't know so this project is making me happy in a big way. I can't wait to be able to point my friends toward the content when they ask me how to get started doing what I've been doing the last year, steeming full-time.

That's exactly how I feel too @allseeingewe. It can be overwhelming to think about spending hours with someone to explain everything - and then they never even make an introduce yourself post. I think many of us have had that experience and have gotten burnt out on inviting friends for that reason.

Thank you so much for all of your enthusiasm and support of the project!

At first it might have helped to spread the name out @therealwolf, yet the implications are huge:

  • there is (almost) no understanding of what is SP and the benefits of holding/investing in bots/curation
  • people in the crypto-universe can not see opportunity in staking SP if they are outside of Steemit, meanwhile the crypto is STEEM itself
  • There is no knowledge of Dapps or STEEM usage.

Holding SP is basically running a masternode, without fixed costs of a server/machine 24/7 online on a top 50 coin and with great return. That is something that @ned and his team needed to market hard.

Thank you for your support and encouragement of the project @bafi! We discuss this exact topic in one of the first videos people will watch to help clear up any confusion on that point.

Is there the opportunity to bring those contents into Italian too?
I'm an Italian power user and multiple sources like the Buildteam can vouche for me, as I did already do translation for minnowbooster and multiple other projects.
I'm really fluent in English and almost mother tongue in that, would love to help the project out @coruscate @anomadsoul

Thank you for reaching out via discord! It was great to chat with you about the potential of having you on board to help with Italian translation. We look forward to stay in touch and collaborating on this.

Towards infinity and beyond!

Thank you so much for the re-steem and for all of your guidance and support on the project @andrarchy!

You hit it on the head with those questions - and I think they are ones that we all struggled with in the beginning. Unfortunately, so many leave before pushing through some of those barriers. Thank you so much for your support on this project to help remedy that problem.

It means so much to have you and @smartsteem behind us!

Great initiative!! Hope you find fine candidates for every language. Nice to be partnering with the project.

Thanks for your support, it means a lot to us that one of the biggest DApps likes the project and the ideas, cheers to the Tasteem community!

It mean so much to have the support of the @tasteem community. So far the response for help with various languages has been incredible and I expect we will see more interest pour in over the next few days. It's great to have a vibrant community of creators who are excited to jump in and bring this project to life.

Thank you again for all of your support!

Have you considered using a "Whiteboard Animation Software" to produce your videos? I have always considered making STEEM video tutorials using some sort of Whiteboard Animation Software. Life got in the way and I never pursued it. I think it can help to make the videos much more simple to understand with whiteboard animation.

If you use a whiteboard animation in your video, you are more likely to script the video better. Translations will become easier and and people will connect better to it. For instance, a video of a male Caucasian talking with a Korean female dubbed voice would not really connect to the audience. With whiteboard animation software, you eliminate that visual distraction and the viewer can connect with the voice. You also eliminate other visual distractions that you are not aware of and the video will have a professional feel.

This is a great suggestion and one that @anomadsoul and I will need to discuss. You bring up a lot of great points on the value of whiteboard videos for comprehension of content and a more professional feel.

Thanks again for taking the time to share this recommendation @socky.

I saw the YouTube channel and watched all the videos. It is looking good. I can't wait until to see a website.

^^

@steemonboarding, please do this. I would love to get models to covert to STEEM, but need simple videos to explain STEEM. In the modeling world, things are fast pace and attention spans are short. In an Instagram and twitter society, simple short videos with no distraction is the way to capture attention of a huge audience and to models who have huge following.

Thank you so much for your feedback @modelcoinmc! Socky brings up some great points on the value of whiteboard videos and it is helpful to hear your thoughts on it as well.

I am super interested in making the German versions! Will write you on discord @curoscate

Thanks for this initiative and good explaination! I can say "yes" to all points :)

If you need any help, you can contact me ofc! :) I will stick to the renewal of my longer "German tutorial" videos series :D

Can vouch for @theaustrianguy - great guy and has been doing a lot of community engagement for the German, Austrian & Swiss community.

Thanks a lot for your offering :)
I think I can get it by my own - but if I need help - I will contact you :)

Love seeing all the support coming from the German community! Thanks again for translating our announcement post @theaustrianguy and for all of your help/support.

Super excited to have you apply @tibfox! Can't wait to chat with you and thank you for your interest.

Same goes for me. If you need any help regarding translations - let me know. Unfortunately, I can't apply for the position, as there are big exams around the 15th of December. I wish you all the best for your application! :)

Thanks a lot for offering your help! I will come back to you if necessary :)

Good Luck with the exams!

We are happy to see such wonderful initiative unfolding! Actifit is happy to support this.
Keep up the great work @anomadsoul and @coruscate

We are so excited to have the support of the @actifit community on this project! We look forward to helping to support you as we develop this project and can start funneling fitness minded steemians to your dApp.

This is such a great initiative! Just what I need to be able to point people to....

50 steem seems a little tight for the funding...?

You´re right man, If we had more $ we´d fund it more but we´re pretty tight in funding and this is just a piece of all the spending we need to do in the short term :(

And @coruscate....yes fair point... I guess the roadmap must be pretty long!

Thank you so much for your support @revisesociology!

We are happy to fund out of pocket for now to get the ball rolling on the project. As momentum and funding for the project grows we look forward to re-evaluating how we can best support those who are helping to build the project.

And @anomadsoul - that last comment was more directed at steeminc btw! They could afford a little more I think!

Really great Project and much needed for new Steem user. So is Steemonboarding more for educational purpose or are you also planning to make direct account creation for new users as well? If so where and how are you getting the Steem Power / RC that is required to do so??? You probably would need a lot of delegations when this site becomes popular.

Both, we already claimed around 600 accounts and we have some strategic alliances with high SP accounts that will help us tackel that issue. Yes, delegations will help a lot and we definitely need them but if we don´t get them, we have a contingency plan, thanks for mentionind it mate!
