Fearless leader needs to make some announcements before Nov I pray.. @ned
I know of some changes coming to Steemit.
I have seen NO PUBLIC INFO RELEASED ABOUT THEM.
Why? What's the plan?
Literally months since we have heard from our man... I don't think that's good.
I'm surprised, I really am.
I saw this article yesterday, and it really got me thinking:
A lot of great ideas in there; worth a read.
I'll add my own observations as well:
TAGS - just a huge problem - not sure it's documented how new tags are created, anywhere
- Why no auto-complete tag selection in the story editor? (sheesh, that's just a given)
Editor - I expected something much more like Gmail's editor, or almost any other online editor - WYSIWYG or HTML markup
- Both editors for Steemit are completely unintuitive if you are not a hacker
- Both editors, are mostly broken, and have too many bugs, should be replaced with better editor packages commonly available
Search - ouch, I won't even go there, needs to be completely rewritten
- and it won't be easy to do either, since SEO, many issues to consider
But mostly the issues in the article above are most pressing, I do understand that.
INFO OVERLOAD and it won't be pretty when there are twice as many users on Steemit
And users have no idea how Steemit will continue to progress, as far as new UI and experience for the web app, no official announcements I've seen.
I'm on every day, I think I would have seen it, if it existed.
I think the mobile thing is over baked.. and I fear that has taken priority, when it's not where the fan base lives.
This is a blogging forum and social media site, and people like to write. On keyboards. At a table, desk, couch, recliner.
Will we have anything more than 20 word Stories, pics off the net, and resteems, if it becomes mobile based?
Steemit has a real opportunity to be the number one social network and massively assist the mainstream growth of crypto currencies.
It just needs some small tweeks whilst it is in it's infancy.
Anyone who uses a social network would surely like to earn money for something they already do.
It could be worth hundreds of billions if the right decisions are made now.
Agreed.
Time to hire a UX manager, and an ARMY... of UI developers.
Is the problem the business model of Steemit? When the revenue is being recycled to all the Steemit users, vs a Facebook, where some of the revenue at least is pumped into hiring hundreds of GUI designers etc. So for Steemit, who hires that army?
@ned and crew. There is over 70mil SP in the @steemit account...
70mil sounds like a lot, but to put it in context that's Facebook's monthly wage bill. Obviously all those FB people are not just designing new front ends and I would be curious how a company which is effectively little more than a website manages to employ over 20,000 employees! What are they doing that Steemit isn't doing, not an awful lot. Also suspect I Steemit will want to keep some of that war chest for other growth leverage like marketing etc
You described my sentiments and ideas, bundled them nicely into one neatly written post! Resteemd... Thanks
You.
You follow my articles, and do a heck of a lot of comments, thanks.
So let's see some personal opinions out of you? :-)
I'd like to read your stuff too.
You are right. I'm not much of a writer - kind of have the nerves a bit when it comes to it. I like to comment, add value here and there and connect with good people. Promise you will see some of my writing in the near future ;) cheers
I also wonder what happened to the tags auto selection feature here on steemit. Are they changing the things without letting us inform?
I am very excited for future developments! I like using the eSteem app on my phone personally, it gives me notifications. I agree that not much is very clear but Steemit still requires some technical knowledge to use. Thanks for your suggestions!
I did a rant post about a few of the things I don't like about Steemit last week. Search function was my main gripe, it's laughable right now and if steemit wants to really take off that's gotta change. Alot of new ppl leave because they're just overwhelmed with a ton of randomness..it's cluttered and u have to cut thru alot of crap to get to the bit you want. Stay true @surfyogi. I enjoyed your rant about the resteems earlier. Too much of that going on! Cheers
One thing i want to see is private messages
The UI is simple enough but some thing can be done to make it more pleasant and user friendly, Maybe a frequent tag reader section where if you like to read on one specific tag than it shows on the right, A search function a mention notification so all users can be more engaged.
I have really enjoyed my time here on Steem and like to use it as another outlet for my artworks, like cartoons and steampunk works. I'm still learning as I go, but posts like this help me out in the long run, so thank you!
i touched on this topic about a month ago, and I'm new here. I said we need the ability to organize our own content similar to Pinterest. We need to be able to create train cars for the Steem train like Pinterest users create new boards. Cargo cars for our own content, and passenger cars for the content we resteem. This is only addressing a small piece, but I think there are probably a lot of ideas out there in Steem land.
I hope they come out of beta soon and improve the user experience.
