Amazing Steemit alternatives to popular social media you can use right now!

Steemit is suffering from a strange problem where it’s incredibly easy to miss all the cool stuff that is already out there, right now. Content discovery is somewhat of a problem right now, the search implementation definitely needs some more work.

On the other hand that brings with it the hint of adventure like in the good old days, following links and exploring in a completely different way than today’s googling for five seconds. In a way steemit feels a bit like exploring a library, letting the fingers run over book backs trying to find the gems.
But back to the social media alternatives.

Did you know there is a full YouTube implementation that’s perfectly usable? Probably, DTube is likely one of the better known platforms built on top of the Steemit blockchain, even though it seems a lot of people miss how much of a game-changer that is for anyone who creates video content and is currently chained to YouTube for better or worse.

But did you know there’s also a livestreaming platform like twitch? Sure there is, it’s called Dlive. Couple that with the fact that there’s no twitch staff banning streamers for showing some skin and you have a platform that doubles as adult streaming, the same way DTube doesn’t care if you upload adult material. That might not be to everyone’s liking but personally I hate the prude attitude of banning NSFW content that all the bigger platforms currently employ which is really backwards in 2018.

Do you like instagram? Why not get SteepShot, the Steemit equivalent? It’s amazing how suddenly everything works hand in hand and all the platforms work with the same, secure and immutable login data. Steepshot works quite well, as you can see in the linked image I have posted two images just fine but since my focus is on longer posts I have only used it for testing.

Busy.org is a whole other level, it’s a publishing platform based on the Steemit chain that works amazingly for anything a bit longer, more professional than Steepshot. This post was written in it and it's a tad more convenient than the basic editor thanks to rich text editing aided by buttons for people not used to markdown.

Do you like wasting time on meme sites like 9gag? Maybe use Dmania instead? Seeing how much money changes hands over some of those posts makes my eyes water, maybe you’ll find success posting there.

All of these post to your main steemit account, meaning that your followers don’t have to dig through all your social media profiles to get your updates. I think that is probably one of the best things, with the current situation I have to inform my Twitter followers when I upload a YouTube video and even though the channel is decently successful hardly anyone ever visits the blog we have put up. Even though I got to automate posting to the different channels to some degree with ifttt.com it’s a solution to a problem that just isn’t one anymore if everything can be done on Steemit.

I hope you enjoyed this post and learned of a cool new project or two.

Please consider upvoting, resteeming and following my account, I plan to hold a healthy balance between tutorial posts and my own photography and blogs. Thanks for reading!
