Feature Proposal: Steemit Account Merge Option

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

Lately I have been thinking quite a bit about the current developments of steemit. I believe that we have a great opportunity presented to us, I can personally ensure steemits success! Bold statement I know... but the way I see it is even if steemit never paid me a cent ever again, with my current investment, the experience of posting here, the community including all its content makes steem a viable investment.

Many times already I have done a random google search on a specific subject to find a steemit post listed at the top of the first page of google. This already proves steemit has made it's mark in the world of the Blockchain community and the interweb.

What is the most valuable thing on the internet? Content!!!

Steemit is specifically geared towards creating unique genuine content, real content with substance I might ad, that puts facebook to shame in my opinion! So what do we have? A crypto currency "STEEM" that is powered by a blogging social community, creating " the most valuable thing on the internet, Genuine Unique Content"!

As most of us know, a few people who originally joined steemit for short term financial gain, or who have simply lost interest moved on, thats OK. I was thinking about this... what if there was a merge option for steemit user accounts, possibly an account exchange what would allow the handover of an account to be merged with another for whatever reason?

This could be done by simply sending an encrypted key from your account to another for example, when accepted by the
recipient you would choose a user name from either of the two accounts and merge them into one. You would then benefit from any account holding, content or reputation added to your account.

The benefits I foresee will be well worth it.

  • Firstly the number of inactive accounts could be lowered.

  • Users could gain a instant financial, reputation , voting power after a merge.

  • A market place with a small fee per account trade generating revenue for steemit

  • Additional rep and voting power is put in the hands of people who are passionate about steemit.

  • non-steem believers are weeded out creating added value to steem and the steemit community.

  • fewer accounts, with greater curation and voting influence.

To avoid spam and multiple small account merges we could then simply restrict the merge option to a specific reputation adding further value. To request and merge with another steemit account you would need to have a rep of at least 60 for example. So basically only people with good steemit reputations would be able to request a merge with another account of higher or lessor value. If your reputation is below the decided reputation value of 60 for example, you cannot request a merge only except one. This could be tweaked to get the correct variable.

Another possibly is an account exchange system "an account trade market for example". Account value on the exchange could be based on your current account value according to the investments and reputation you have gained for example. We could create a whole new revenue generating creature here!

Just an idea and some food for thought, I could spin off in many different directions from this point but at this point I would rather appreciate community feedback on the idea and we take it from there. Having an idea is one thing but the reality of implementing it is a whole different kettle of fish. Keeping in mind I am no expert and this would probably take tons of development and valuable time.

I really think this could actually work! I know of two people who have accounts with a rep around 40 and they are no longer interested in steemit. Merging there accounts with my account would be awesome, I don't mind there already created content and my account would benefit instantly, that's awesome!

I don't think that even the development would be to difficult for experienced developers to achieve. The chances are that two posts from separate accounts wont clash, they are posted at different times so it is very unlikely that they will clash if that makes sense.

I think this is a very good idea, would be awesome if we could get more feedback from the community so I re-steemed. Good job!
