Is Steemit Incentifying The Wrong Behaviour With Its User Experience ?
I've been pondering some the features users are exposed to on a daily basis, right here on Steemit.
and I've been asking myself a few tough questions....
I'm not going to give away my opinions just yet though. First I'd like to here your thoughts as a member of the Steemit community.
Why does Steemit display the monetary value of every post to everyone ?
Why does Steemit display the monetary value of every account to everyone ?
Why has there been a conscious effort made to display this value in USD ?
How does (1,2,3) influence users behavior, especially new users ?
I'm interested to get YOUR thoughts - I'm happy to share my thoughts in the comments.
I think that displaying monetary values introduces a conscious effort in users in being considerate as to what they upvote and incentivizes them to think real hard about writing a good, relevant comment in order to get more STEEM.
That being said, I do worry that the posts with large monetary values so brazenly displayed would attract hackers interested in hacking the accounts of those authors. Seems almost too transparent.
In you opinion, why do users need incentives to upvote something .. If they enjoyed reading a post is that not incentive enough ?
The incentive is that it rewards the poster for their time and effort proportionally to how much the post was enjoyed. Think about what makes Facebook worth so much money. It's because we all give it our time, our effort, our data, and our content. And it's all going to Facebook stakeholders. Shouldn't we be the ones making earnings from our data and content?
Transparency....followed n upvoted
Thanks - Yes I agree that it's transparent. But in your opinion, how does the exact way it's displayed on every post effect user behavior ?
I'm assuming all this information is publicly available on the blockchain anyways as part of public information and transparency, so even if steemit didn't display it users could look it up on a site like steemwhales.com
I'm sure your right . everything is available to anyone if they wish to search for it. But why do Steemit make it so you don't need to search ... do you think providing financial incentives to people to interact on a platform is a good thing . Are the interactions real, or bought / forced ?
It's probably cause of transparency, one key feature of blockchain tech. Also, displaying this is probably the greatest marketing strategy ever.
I don't mind it, and those who come only for the money probably won't stay the course.
Btc is also denominated in USD, and it's a common standard that most people are familiar with.
At the end of each post and comment there is a $ amount ... not how much steem / steempower / followers ... or anything else .... simply a $ amount and a reply button. Is this $ amount supposed to signify how much value that post or comment has ? ... in who's eyes ? .... is this a society who must see value in whatever a whale sees value in ? .. as they posses the most voting power .... why is my vote not as valuable as the next person ? .... is this really a fair system ? ..... is this really the best use of blockchain tech ? ... sorry for all the question .. they are not all directed at you but more directed to everyone
