A Story of a Newbie’s Steemit Journey – the Origin of Coolector’s Tips and Tricks
Any reader looking for a social site that pays and stumbled to Steemit will surely have the same reaction seen in the meme above.
In fact, even if you have been invited by someone, there’s a high chance that you will be confused with everything that is going on – what is STEEM, how is it different from Steem Power, is SBD an anagram of BDSM, how come the earnings of certain posts in the trending section are skyrocketing to almost a thousand dollars, etc…
There’s no simple way to put it, but Steemit is unlike any traditional social paying sites.
Bubblews, Bitlanders, Rabadaba, MyLot (and the likes) are all, shall we say, straightforward. In mentioned sites, one simply submits a post, it is then viewed / liked by other members, and the post-author earns from such post engagement.
So how different is Steemit?
As mentioned by the Warden of the North, Ned Stark, above – submitting posts, being a serial liker, and hoping for reciprocation just wouldn’t cut it here in Steemit.
One reason for this is due to this aspect called ”Voting Power”
Of course, there are other factors as well – there’s the member’s level (minnow, dolphin, whale), delegation, witnesses, discord, STEEM, etc…
What the FAQ?!
Sure, like every other sites, Steemit also has it FAQ section to help out the newbies. Almost everything that a newbie needs to know can be found there. Obviously, that’s a good thing right. After all, information is power and all the tons of info found in the FAQ section is neatly arranged.
Unfortunately, there can be a downside to all this information.
Just imagine if you are a newbie. You stumbled in the site and got overly excited seeing those huge-earning posts in the trending section.
The newbie exclaimed to himself
“Bitcoin gods be praised! I must become a part of this so-called Steemit.”
Naturally, the newbie created an account, and while waiting for the approval, went over to read the FAQs with eyes wide and beaming with delight.
DOOM! I mean BOOM!
The huge smile slowly turning into a frown when all the info in the FAQ appeared before his eyes. “Where would I start?” “Should I read everything from top to bottom?” – the newbie asks himself.
Yup, the above scenario can happen – and it is enough to wash away all the excitement a newbie may have
If you are reading this, then considered yourself lucky as I will be starting a series of posts which aim to help out newbies explore and navigate the site with ease.
Besides, doing this initiative is extremely beneficial for me. For those who are not aware, even though I have been part of Steemit for a few months now, I am always in and out of the site.
This time around, I will make an effort to stay longer. And in order to do that, I coaxed some of my online buddies to join in. To ensure that they stay, I’ll guide them on how to have fun in the site.
Anyway, this is the reason why I decided to put up a series of what I will be calling Coolector’s Tips and Tricks (#CoolTipsAndTricks)
In this series, I will try (to the utmost of my abilities) to teach and share any knowledge that I have observed using the site. This is in the hopes that they (and other readers as well) will learn something new or improve on their existing knowledge of that aspect.
That’s just about it. Consider this one as a prelude of awesome things to come. Have fun Steeming everyone.

After being approved, I did some exploring and got lost on how to do things.
So I went to the FAQ! MAN?!?!? that's a lot of info. I thought of reading it from top to bottom, but after scanning certain words like digital tokens, blockchain, SBD....ugh...TMI (too much information).
Then there's this group that took me in. Unfortunately, they have this strict rules and kinda demanding. I even saw a newbie or two that appears to be bullied 😂
oh well, at least we are now out of that Steem stage. I guess its up to us to guide newbies on how to have fun Steeming :)

A group that helps is essential! You really need 1 or 2 people who take the time to explain you all 'stupid questions' (there are no stupid questions ofcourse, just newbie questions).
Or some reassuring blogs like these ones to tell us we will be alright hahah!
