Digital technology for publishing students' writings

As a teacher, have we ever imagined that our students do very seriously the tasks we give? and what happens is they get less appreciation from us. Generally, students write an essay to be submitted to the teacher as an assignment, such as a final assignment. Then, the teacher checks the students' work and gives the scores based on their abilities in writing the essays. Perhaps by giving a decent scores for their work, we think that it is very fair. However, the fact is that students tend to prefer each of their writing to be appreciated by many people for their writing efforts in writing.

Creating an online based medium or using an online platform for the class we teach is a brilliant idea where students can publish their writings. Applying such technology will encourage students to be more actively engaged. Every essay written by students will be published and will be readable by many people. This is an appreciation of their efforts to write.

Additionally, publishing each of their essays will also help students to be more responsible for their learning process, and will provide an wide opportunity for them to collaborate on the scientific research that students will undertake.

To successfully implement this model of learning is largely determined by the technical abilities of teachers in choosing a kind of digital technology that suits the needs of students and the needs of the classroom. In order for students essays to be widely published, teachers can choose web-based media or one of the social media that is widely used by people, for example Steemit, Facebook, Canvas and many others.

Although the use of digital technology in learning provides many benefits, on the other hand, it also has adverse effects if it is not handled properly through a set of techniques. Here are some things that teachers can consider in implementing this model:

1. Give students writing assignments that suit the media used to publish their essays. If the teachers uses a web where students have to share their writing, then teachers need to make sure the features and formats are appropriate, for example there are some web tools that do not support certain formats, formulas or symbols. Likewise, features such as comments are also needed so that anyone who reads the essay can provide a feedback on the text, and students can discuss each other on the topic discussed.

2. Make sure that each of your students understands the goals to be achieved together through the use of the technology. Some rules also need to be mutually agreed upon before starting this class, for example the teacher sets the standard for writing an essay, essay publication deadline, and other rules relating to the academic world.

3. Provide technical assistance to students who are still confused about the use of the media. For example, students need to be taught about how to post on the web, or how the features work. A class outside the main hours to train students in using the media or the web is indispensable to reduce their incomprehension while they are operating this technology.

In conclusion, the use of online media to facilitate students in writing and publishing their essays is considered very crucial today. Various benefits can be achieved by teachers and students by applying this model of learning, both to appreciate the writing of students to be read by many people and to increase student involvement maximally. Therefore, the set of guidelines I have written above should be considered by any teacher who wishes to apply this model of learning.
